Free Disney Dining Plan

I am planning a family trip for Dec. 28, 2011 to Jan. 7, 2012. Does anyone know if there is a free dining plan offer during this time period or if it is likely that there will be one? Any other deals you may know of are welcome too!

Right now, there are no specials for that time period. With that being Christmas week, I wouldn't expect any to come out. If one does, what a great surprise! Don't count on it, though.

I would count on few, if any, discounts of any sort being offered for dates between Christmas and New Years. They don't need to offer specials to fill the rooms that week. (Which is why they offer specials in the first place...to fill empty rooms)

For dates after the 2nd or 3rd of January, you might see some kind of special offer, but perhaps not until after the Marathon (which seems rather early this year).

Virgin are offering free dining (kinda) for select dates during 2012 for UK travellers.

I will be visiting during these times and it's a bit of a misnomer with 'free dining' being restricted to counter service no matter which resort you book. When you consider I'll be staying at POFQ, I should be getting the regular plan for free but no, it's still going to cost me as much as it would if the deal was not on. Why?

I would agree you will not see anything between Christmas and New Years. It is possible (not likely) that with the 1st being on a Sunday, there might be something offered starting Monday 2nd. By Wednesday most schools are back in session and maybe...

Why should you be getting anything more for free than what you're already getting? I'm just curious where this thinking comes from. Is it because of what resort you're staying in? POFQ isn't that expensive of a resort. If Disney doesn't need to offer discounts to fill their rooms, they won't. Obviously it's not as much of a necessity for them anymore.

The only reason it would cost you more than what you're getting for free in the quick service plan is if you choose to eat at sit-down restaurants that aren't covered. The only way you'd be paying as much as if you didn't have the free quick service is if you are eating table service restaurants for every meal and never taking advantage of the free offerings at the counter service restaurants. It's all in how you plan. If you plan according to what's being offered you could eat just 1 table service meal each day and utilize the 2 free counter service meals for your other meals. If you want to keep costs down, plan your table service meals for breakfast or lunch because those are typically less-expensive than dinner.

Either way, a lot of people out there would be grateful to have free quick service dining vs. nothing at all.

Disney has said that they were going to scale back the discounts for some time now and it looks like they're finally doing that. I think people really did get spoiled to the abundant, generous discounts. They're always nice to have when offered but nobody is ever entitled to them just for going.
