A First Timer's December 2010 Trip Report

After reading others trip reports and enjoying looking at all the wonderful pictures i have decided to write my own trip report. I am fairly new to Disney and took my first trip this past December with my boyfriend and our 3 year old son. We had started planning for this trip in 2008 and came across WDW magic which helped in all of my planning.

Making the trip happen was a lot of hard work. My boyfriend is a franchisse of a convenience store where i work as well. Even though we can set our own schedule we had to line up reliable and trustworthy staff and find someone to take care of things while we were gone so we would know things were taken care of and we wouldn't have to worry too much while on vacation. This was only our second vacation away from the store since we started with the store in 2003. So we were due!

My boyfriend let me do all the planning. I decided on everything we did and where we ate. I had to check out all the menues for the restaurants because my boyfriend is a very picky eater as well he is a complainer. I wanted him to have a good time and not find anything to complain about. I chose the first week of December so we could see all the Christmas decorations and i read the crowds were low at this time. I chose All Star Movies because my son is a huge Toy Story fan and i knew he would enjoy seeing the larger then life Buzz and Woody. We got the free quick service dining plan but i upgraded to the regular dining plan so we could do some character meals

Now if someone could help me out and explain how to post pictures on here i will be all set.

Arrival Day

We left on Tuesday November 30th. We got up at 3:30am and left at 4:00am. We got to the airport around 5:30 and our flight left at 6:30,. By the time we got through customs and everything we didn't have long to wait. I chose an ealry flight so when we got to the resort we could rest and still do something in the evening. I packed our swim gear in our carryons incase our room wasn't ready and we could take advantage of the pool. I packed some toys and books to keep my son occupied on the plane. I didn't know how it was going to be for him. the only other time he was on a plane he was 5 months old. Everything went smoothly and he fell asleep anyways.

When we got to the Orlando airport it was a great feeling knowing we didn't have to worry about our luggage or getting lost in the airport. We found the Magical Express easily and we didn't even have to wait 2 minutes and it was time to get on our bus. When we went outside to get on the bus i couldn't belive how beautiful the weather was. It was hard to believe that hours earlier we were freezing and knee deep in snow.

This is my son Cohen enjoying the Magical Express drive.

No matter how hard i tried i couldn't get a good picture of the sign that says Welcome to Walt Disney World. Oh well mabey next time. Here are more pictures of our Magical Express drtive.

Arrival Day

I chose All Star Movies as our resort because my son is a huge Toy Story fan and i knew he would love to see the larger then life Buzz and Woody. I did the online check in because i thought it would be quicker however i stood in line for 45 minutes because the cast member was helping someone. There was no one in line at the regular check in but they wouldn't take any of us in line because the online check in line was opened. I didn't get my request to be in the Toy Story building either but i didn't let it bother me, i was just so excited to be there. And i knew that just meant we would get to go exploring later.

We had reservations at Chef Mickey's for 6:30. I read such great things about it and i thought it would be a great start to the vacation to see the fab five. To kill some time before the reservation we decided to take a look around the resort.

Arrival Day

We hopped on a bus to the Magic Kingdom and took the monorail to the Contemporary Resort. One of the things i loved about Disney is the transportation and how they will take you where ever you needed to go. No stress of renting a car and getting lost in an unfamiliar place. Sure there were times we had to wait which my boyfriend didn't like too much but again didn't bother me much because i was just so excited and happy to be there. Anyways we got to our reservations at 6 and we got seated right away. Now earlier that day because of all the travelling and excitement i didn't really eat much. When i don't eat i get headaches which make me sick. So by the time we got to Chef Mickeys i had a small headache developing which i thought would easily be helped by having something to eat. As soon as we sat down Donald came along so food was going to have to wait. We were also celebrating Cohen's 3rd birthday. I had to prepare Cohen for the size of the characters. I thought he was going to be scared but as soon as he seen the charcters roaming around the restaurant he vibrated in his seat and when they came to our table he wasn't shy at all. He gave them hugs and posed for pictures. In between charcaters i went to get our food. Now my headache was a full fledged migrane and i had to keep going to the restroom beacuse i was scared i was going to get sick. When i was in the restroom Minnie came around and she brought my son a cupcake for his birthday and gave him a hug and kiss. I missed the whole thing and Minnie was the one he was excited to see the most. I was too sick to even eat now, so once Cohen got to see all the charcters we left to go back to the resort. I was so happy to get into bed but disappointed too that i didn't get to enjoy my evening more. But satisfied that Cohen got to enjoy his meal and got to see his favorite characters.

Great pictures -- makes me remember some of my childhood trips. :)

Sorry you didn't feel well during your time at Chef Mickey's. That's always one of the worst feelings, being sick while trying to enjoy a vacation. It looks like your son had a great time, though!

Looking forward to the rest of your report!

Oh WOW! A first-timer report! That is RARE! Seriously. How lucky are you to have documented your adventures from the start?! I so wish I had thought to do that. I have pics, souvenirs, and memories from our first 5 family trips but I wish I had thought to write out the story. Welcome to trip reporting! I'm so excited to read about your journey!!!!

Your son is adorable! What a great age for a first trip! So glad to hear he wasn't at all afraid of the characters. My aunt's favorite resort is All-Star Movies and you got her favorite, most requested building. She looooves Fantasia.

Sorry to hear you got sick that first night. My oldest son (turned 15 years old this past Thursday) has been like that since about the 3rd grade. He can't eat a lot of processed meats like hot dogs, chips w/the powdery stuff like Doritos or Cheetos, chocolate, peanut butter, or tomato sauce like on pizza or pasta. Plus, if he goes too long without eating he gets the same effect: migraine then :hurl:. Just like you, he needs to lay down to sleep it off. It's never fun when it happens particularly when it's at a time when you really don't want it to. I'd say he does the routine at least once every 2-3 weeks.

Can't wait for more! You're doing a fab job so far!!! :sohappy:

Day 1 Magic Kingdom

I woke up feeling great, well rested and was ready to go. my boyfriend Chris was a bit tired though because after me and Cohen went to bed the night before Chris went down to the bar and was there until they closed whenever that was. I felt it was only right to have our first day at Maic Kingdom so we could take in the famous castle and i knew there would be lots of rides and attractions that Cohen would enjoy. He was only 39" at the time of this trip so we knew we wouldn't be doing any of the rollercoasters. I fell in love with the place as soon as walked on to main street. I just loved the atmosphere and and everything about it.

We headed to Fantasyland first. I knew this would probably Cohen's favorite part of the park. And if we only did Fantasyland today that was fine because we still had another day for the Magic kingdom and MVMCP. So we didn't have to rush all around the park trying to get all the rides and attractions in.

Day 1 Magic Kingdom

Our first ride was the carrousel. We didn't have to wait long at all. In fact we didn't have to wait long in line for all the rides we rode that day. we even got to ride duplicate times on several.

DSC04013-Copy.jpg

We were off to Dumbo next.

DSC04014.jpg

DSC04015-Copy.jpg

Then off to the Mad Tea Party. This and Snow White was Cohen's favorite rides. I think he like it so much because he enjoyed spinning it fast to make me dizzy. We went on this ride several times.

Day 1 Magic Kingdom

We decided to head over and check out Toon Town. I had heard that they were tearing it down to make way for the Fantasyland expansion and i wanted a chance to see because if and when we came back it wouldn't be there anymore.
DSC04033-Copy.jpg

DSC04034.jpg

We decided to do Goofy's Barnstormer. i read it was a tame rollercoaster and Cohen was tall enough to get on. Cohen hated it and definately didn't want to go on that again. Chris didn't like it either. he's not a big rollercoaster fan.

We found this great playground that Cohen loved. We couldn't get him out of there.

We then went to check out Mickey and Minnie's houses. I knew Cohen would really enjoy this. It's a shame that thier not going to be there anymore. It was so fun walking around thier houses and checking out everything.

We rode the railroad all around the park. my son loves loves trains so he really liked thisand we it was nice to give our feet a little break and to have a rest. We then went looking for a place to have lunch. We decided to eat at Pinocchio Village Haus. i thought the themeing was great and it was such a beautiful day out we found a table outside. We enjoed our meal and just people watched and took in our srroundings.

DSC04064.jpg

After lunch we did more rides in Fantasyland. I think the only ride we didn't get to was Peter Pans flight. The wait time was like 40 minutes and we didn't want to wait that long. The Fast Pass return was like 630 but i knew at that time we would be staking out a spot to watch the parade so we just decided we would do that ride on our other Magic Kingdom day.

Day 1 Magic Kingdom

Cohen had a little cat nap in his stroller and we went looking for a spot for the Celebrate A Dream Come True Parade. I loved this parade. The music and the characters, just everything about it. It was nothing like we were used to. Our typical town parade consists of police cars, fire trucks and a few floats. My son was nervous at first becuase he is afraid of the the firetruck sirons. But once i explained to him he realized this was a different kind of parade and he calmed down and really enjoyed it.

DSC04087.jpg

DSC04088.jpg

We bought Cohen one of the balloons not thinking that we wouldn't be able to take it back home on the plane with us. and the breeze kept blowing it around and hitting people and i could tell they were quite annoyed. I tied it to the stroller as tight as i could and said to myself "NEVER AGAIN"!

After the parade Cohen fell asleep in his stroller. We found a quiet shadey spot in Liberty Square and let him sleep and we just rested on the bench until our reservations at Crystal Palace

Day 1 Magic Kingdom

Now you probably notice that me and Chris are not in many of the pictures. I'm the one taking most of the pictures and Chris hates getting his picture taking especially if he knows i plan on posting them on facebook or something . So most of the pictures are of Cohen.

The Crystal palace is a beautiful restaurant. A little loud but expected. I had this delicious salad i'm not sure the name of but i went up 3 times for it. Chris is a picky eater so he just stuck with the kid choices of pizza and nuggets.Cohen loved dancing around the room with the characters. he was having so much fun he didn't eat very much.

When we finished our dinner we headed over towards the castle and noticed the Shake it Celebrate It Street Party was going on. What great timing.
We then staked out our spot for the Main Street Electrical Parade. I wanted to go close to the beginning of main street so we could make a quick getaway after the parade. we didn't plan on staying for the fireworks because just like sirons my son is afraid of the loudness of fireworks. I had us booked in for the Pirates and Pals Fireworks Voyage on another day so we could see the fireworks from the water where they wouldn't be as loud.

I loved the parade, i think it was my favorite out of all the ones we saw during our trip and we only got to see it once :(. I videotaped the whole thing so i don't have any pictures of the parade. We decided to stay for the fireworks because my son said he wanted to see them. I told him if he got scared to let me know and we would leave. I'm glad we stayed . He was not afraid at all and he was just in awww.

Day 2 Epcot

We started off our morning with reservations at 'Ohana. I was under the impression that there were busses for early morning breakfast reservations. So at 6:45 we headed to the busses and waited and waited and waited. Our reservations were for 8:00 am and the bus didn't come until 7:45.Someone told us that the early busses come at 6:30 so i guess we missed it by 15 minutes. We were 30 minutes late, luckily we still got in, it didn't seem quite busy yet. Though i enjoyed my breakfast and the atmosphere of the place it wasn't one of my favorite meals. I found there wasn't much variety offered and i left still hungry. I have to say though that the Polynesian resort is beautiful. I would love to stay there someday.
