Bedtime Stories is gone!

Last week Bedtime Stories stopped airing every night at WDW. For those of you not familiar with Bedtime Stories it used to air each night on Channel 14 which normally is the Radio Disney channel. Each night a read-a-long program of 6 or so stories aired from 7:30pm to just after 10:00pm. This was great for putting my kids to sleep after a long day, often before the 3rd story was over. According to Guest Services Disney didn't want to pay performance royalties and/or carry the DVD stories in the Resort stores. My kids will miss this!

I am so heartbroken... I haven't even had the chance to take my daughter there to enjoy one of my favorite past times - this is so sad... I'm glad you told me before I went though - it would have been horrible to find out once we were there... but I am so bummed...

I don't buy the performance royalties line. Disney owns all of the stories they told so I doubt they had to pay any royalties at all.

They aren't paying royalties on the stories, they have to pay royalties to the actors who did the voice of the characters for the bedtime stories. This is the same reason why Disney is getting rid of Timekeeper, so they don't have to pay Robin Williams anymore.

Can anyone confirm this? This sounds like a stupid thing to do on Disney's part. I would lean more towards the actors getting paid once per a contract and that's it. Disney is very good at not giving away money.

Now that is a pretty large load of hokey....

Actually thats probably true. Every time a TV show airs the actors get compensated for it's showing. Same is true for the music industry. Why do you thing they sell so many commercial time slots. So probably each year Robin Williams and every recorded voice in Disney get compensated for the use of thier talent.

Im sorry but I would be willing to bet that is not true. Most times with that type of stuff Disney sets up the contracts so there are no royalties. It is a one time payment type of thing. I am almost 100% certain Robin Williams gets absolutly no royalties from Timekeeper let alone the people who do the bed time stories. I think who ever told you that was pulling your leg or was simply misinformed.

Its only like that if that is how the terms of the original contract are written.

Ditto.

Robin was contracted to do many things with Disney. Remember the short film at the Animation studios over at MGM? If royalties were the case, then we all know Robin would still be around.

It was sad to see him turn his back to the Mouse after what they did to him.

Regardless of why the are ending this, I am sad. This was one of the many "little" things that the kids loved that made staying on site an extra special event for them, even if we were only at the all stars.

I agree - this was one of our favorite ways to wind down at the end of the day - I've emailed Disney to let them know I'll miss it and hope they bring it back... maybe just maybe with enough requests, they will!
