News Liberty Square Riverboat Rehab Extended until SPRING 06

The Liberty Square Riverboat, AKA The Liberty Bell, originally expected to reopen on September 19th, will not reopen until at least Spring of 2006.

The Riverboat goes down for Rehab twice a year for about 2 to 3 weeks, in the Fall and Winter , to do state mandated inspections of the steam biolier. State Law requires just one per year, but disney does it twice. During these mini-rehabs, other work is also done, such as teaking the wood, and pressure washing the boat. Every few years parts of the boat are painted as well.

So what is so different this year? Well apparently there had been NO long-termed Rehab planned yet in the middle of this short one, the decision was made to close the boat for 6-8 months.

Looks like there will be no story telling for MNSSHP's this year. Plus, in November, when the Mansion closed for 10 days, Liberty Square will be left with just the Hall of Presidents open.

That would be a strange sight. I can't imagine what it would look like without The Liberity Bell.

Well, that just stinks. I was hoping to enjoy a ride on it in December. Oh well, there is always hope that it will be open in 2007. Maggie

speck, thanks for the post - you reminded me to bother checking end dates when scanning closure notices. I had forgotten they change "without notice."

ps: They added an end-date for Seas.

Well another one to scratch off the list. My DD has ridden, but I don't ever recall riding at WDW or DL. I was wanting to add it to my list of attractions I've never done before. Looks like Astro Orbiter will have to do on that list.

Do they still have the Bertha Mae and Gullywumper? I don't know why I am thinking that they sold at least one of them?

I jsut heard that the other day. The boat at this time is being stored behind frontierland. I heard that it is a pain in the butt to get it back there. The bridge that the train goes over actually gets moved, which takes hours at a time, and then the boat is docked back there. I heard from a trainer that the boat will go down for 9 months, come back, and then go back into refurbishment.

Yup. I wanna say it's set for dry dock soon (if not already). It'll definetly be needing this rehab.

The boat had a mishap and has several holes in it. It was a safety issue and this caused the long rehab.
