I am staying at MUSIC Aug 7 to the 14th. I am currently on a "life change" plan and want to continue my healthy eating at Disneyworld.

My main concern is what to eat at MUSIC for breakfast, lunch and dinner?

As well as healthy eating in the theme parks?

Thanks for your help

Disney has done a great deal to support healthy eating habits. They have eliminated trans fat from all the menus and packaged foods, added fresh fruit as a side and snack throughout the parks, and all venues have healthy choices. Several venues even focus on having healthier fresh food choices. I would recommend The Wave in the contemporary for a sit down meal, and the Sunshine Season Food Fair in the Land Pavilion in EPCOT for quick service.

The food court at All Stars will have things like salads and fruit along with the other fast food type fare. One of my favorite treats, that can be found in many food courts, is a yogurt and fruit parfait.

The trouble is there are still so many temptations. The healthy choices are there you just have to actually choose them.:)

Good luck.

Every restaurant has a healthy option and usually a vegetarian option as well.
My suggestion would be to review the menus and see what suits your tastes/lifestyle. If the food isn't already prepared (like in the snack bars) there is a very good chance it can be altered for you. My second bit of advice is to remember that you are on vacation in WDW, a place that has some wonderful restaurants...don't make yourself crazy, splurge a bit.

Remember that the average guest at WDW walks about 13 miles a day, that should offset any extra calories you consume; think of it as forced exercise.

Just wanted to add that as a diabetic I have NEVER had a problem finding something that fit into my eating plan, most of the time without adjustments.

Perhaps the better question - and perhaps this is what you meant to ask (after all, we all know what we SHOULD eat, right?) - is: What is healthy AND tasty at WDW?

Anyone have any suggestions in THAT vein? Sure, most places will have salads and grilled chicken dishes and stuff like that. But where would you find the most kick*** salads and healthy fare?

Salads are not so healthy if they get loaded up with salad dressing.

There are a lot of hidden calories and fats. Chinese food often uses a lot of butter in stir fries, for instance.

I don't really think you can eat all that 'healthy' while on vacation and while eating out. You can avoid certain things and try to eat less.
Nobody, however, is going to spend a week at WDW and eat only plain salad and grilled chicken breast.

Salads can be terrible for you if you aren't careful.

Let's look at Cosmic Ray's for example...

Now since this is a counter service place you have to choose wisely -

You can try the 1/2 Rotisserie Chicken - with mashed potatoes and a seasonal vegetable $9.49 - there is probably a lot of butter and salt, but not a bad option if you watch yourself the rest of the day. There is also a Grilled Chicken Sandwich - served with apple slice or french fries $8.39

How about a veggie burger, a veggie wrap or a Greek salad or chicken Caesar salad with dressing on the side and easy on the cheese (that's what I usually get). You can have water, diet soda or even regular soda to go along with it.
You can also get a yogurt as a side or try the turkey sandwich kid's meal (All meals include grapes and carrot sticks and choice of: 1% Mickey Milk, small bottled water or apple juice) because nobody will know if you have a kid with you or not.

You really need to review the menus ahead of time so you have a general idea of what is offered so you aren't going in blind and then trying to make a decision. Planning is everything if you have a dietary agenda.

Just wanted to add that I miss the old Tusker House menu because the salmon dinner was the best counter service meal ever (IMHO).

Most places offer a healthy option, or something that can be healthy with a bit of moderation. Salads have come up here and how the dressing can kill the healthy aspects, but you can also have a salad without the dressing (and places with Salsa allow you to have a healthy alternative). Since you specifically requested ASMu information, I will help you out a bit with what I think are decent options.

Breakfast: Vegetable Omelette without cheese and ask them to go light on any oils if they are using. Eggs are an excellent source of protein and will keep you moving throughout the day. Don't eat any of the potatoes or biscuits that might come with it.

Lunch:Taco Salad- Crazy as it might sound, it isn't bad IF you don't eat the shell or use sour cream and a large amount of cheese. I know that kind of defeats the purpose, but it is an option.

Create your own Salad-Probably can't get much better than that for you if you keep the ingredients under control.

Dinner: Baked Chicken/Roast Turkey/Grilled Salmon: Healthy on its own...just watch your sides.

There are plenty of good options out there, just watch what you eat and you will be fine. Enjoy it a bit though, you are on vacation.

Thank you all for your help!! When I was in Disney in November I actually lost weight (expected to gain weight). I lost 3lbs. I am going to enjoy myself and eat in smaller portions.

Not hard to believe you lost weight, you'd be amazed as to how many miles of walking you might do each day at WDW.

We typically make a grocery stop on the first day and buy food for breakfasts. If you do this, you can guarantee you'll be eating what you would consider a healthy and tasty breakfast. As a bonus, this strategy saves money and gets you to the parks sooner!

Hmm..I would be interested to see what a pedometer would read after a day in the parks. I bet theres a few rides that would really mess with the accuracy though.

My son took a pedometer on our last trip, and he logged 33,000+ steps per day. His stride is about 2 feet long.

The step count does not include time at the waterparks, though.

My wife wore a pedometer a few years back and she logged between 7 and 15 miles a day depending on the park and how hard we hit it that day.

Another guest saw the pedometer and showed us his GPS watch and told us he was logging between 10 and 13 miles a day.

I don't really watch what I eat to much at WDW, but the sheer amount of walking I do... I actually LOST weight when I was there in October!

3 households of my family members banded together this past april and started following a mediterranean/asian style diet with all but one of us regularly exercising. the one not exercising has lost 6 lbs so far and the rest of us in the 20-30 lb range. we too are looking at maintaining our lifestyle changes (while still leaving wiggle room for disney fun of course) for our early december trip to wdw so we understand where you're coming from. i suggest using the web (like allears.net) to research the menus so you have a plan as to where you can eat and stick closer to your eating habits. we approach it with the idea that if we stick closer to our style of eating for the majority of our meals (especially breakfast and lunch) then we have more room for things like cocktails, desserts etc... either way keep up the good work.
