Hidden Mickey in Iron Man 2!

I won't go into how fantastically The movie dove into the Marvel Universe, but there was a distinct Hidden Mickey!

Howard Stark developed his version of EPCOT! But that is not the real gem. When Tony is manipulating the virtual model of EPCOT, he creates a virtual Spaceship Earth. The giant geosphere. I do wonder if this was on purpose or just a creative accident, or if EPCOT is so ingrained into our collective unconcious that SSE made its way into the film without the producers knowing what they were doing.

If my timelines are correct, principle shooting should have been finished before Disney bought Marvel. Very interesting indeed.

You have to keep in mind that Marvel is now owned by Disney, so none of those were close to accidents. Howard Stark and the Expo were both paying tribute to Disney and EPCOT. Also, in the credits they play a song by Robert Sherman :)

Well, Disney also had quite a hand in the World's Fair, so I not necessarily saw the whole EPCOT deal that you guys saw.

But seeing how Howard Stark wears a suit, slicked back black hair and mustache (and also seems fatherly on camera while being slightly different off), I definitely felt he drew inspiration from Disney.

Guess we have to wait for the commentary for sure.

By the way, IRON MAN 2 was produced by Paramount Pictures. I think it was more of a clever story point than commenting on the merger.

I think it was intended to sorta be similar to Disney and Epcot, but became more ironic after Disney bought Marvel.

My wife and I definately had a Walt Disney vibe from Howard Stark. Also one of the songs that was played during the credits about how technology betters our lives was written by Richard Sherman, of every great Disney song there is fame.

The music for the Stark Expo was written by one of the Sherman Brothers. They did "its and small world" and the carousel of progress song. Theres also this tidbit from IMDB...
Howard Stark's (John Slattery) presentation of the city of tomorrow is modeled after Walt Disney's presentation of Epcot, which was originally planned as a city before redevelopment as a theme park. The music that plays during Stark's presentation was also written by Richard M. Sherman who frequently composed music for Disney films and theme parks.

I waited through the credits to see who wrote that song. Richard Sherman was credited (Could have been either I guess). I was delighted! I think the director has to be a fan!

What was so cool was that I saw the film on opening night and had no idea of the references to Disney and the fair. It really tickled me!

Way to go Marvel!

BTW I thought the movie had a weaker script than the first one, but was much more entertaining. I really enjoyed it! Go see it NOW! LOL!

Cool, I saw the midnight screening too! I agree that the script was a bit weaker. The comedy was better, but I think thats due to the new writer being a comedy writer. He also did Tropic Thunder. But yeah overall it was fun, there were tons of Marvel references and Disney similarities and I love both.
