Tomorrowland Speedway Accident

Wow, I just rode this ride for the first time last week with my kids (actually we rode it twice) and while I was sitting in the car I had the thought, "I wonder if anybody's been hit"! I noticed the CMs would sometimes cross the tracks and if a driver wasn't paying attention and put their foot down on the peddle... I can see how someone would get injured!

Hopefully, the CM is ok and it's nothing too serious!

Cast Member Sruck by Car at Tomorrowland Speedway

From CFNews13.com:

LAKE BUENA VISTA -- A Disney cast member is recovering after he was struck by a guest who was driving a go-cart.

It happened Sunday at the__Tomorrowland Speedway__attraction at Magic Kingdom.__

Disney officials closed the attraction while Orange County deputies investigated.__ The attraction reopened around 3:30 p.m.

The cast member was airlifted to__Orlando Regional Medical Center for treatment.__ His injuries are said to be non-life-threatening.

The guest was not injured.

No one else was involved in the accident.

I'm interested to know how he was hit. Was he out trying to get a car back on the rails,or at load/unload. I'm glad he is OK.

I wouldn't think one could sustain any serious injury at the tomorrow land indy speedway... Time to close down the attraction...
I could see if the cars traveled at a fast speed not being able to get out of the way but these cars are not that fast and the cast member should have been able to move unless he/she was not paying attention.. I am picturing the scene from Austin Powers where Austin is driving the Steamroller at one of Dr. Evils Henchmen

Do they airlift people for a run-over'd foot?

Regardless, hope everyone is alright.

Do they airlift people over non-life threatening injuries? I think due to the MK being so secluded he very well could of been airlifted because of that.

Maybe he could be facing amputation?

Probably due to one of those idiots who feels the need to ram into the car in front for kicks. :brick:

As slow as those cars move, even with the pedal to the metal, I wouldn't think one could possibly be hit hard enough to have to face amputation. The only explanation I can think of as to why someone would have to be airlifted over such an accident would be because of the crowds at the park and the seclusion of the park.

Neck, back or head injuries would need the fastest, smoothest evac. Injuries quite possible in hitting concrete or a metal rail from a fall or tumble. Assuming it was a fall and nothing more serious.

Steel toed shoes are worn at speedway. They are the same cars from when the park first opened in 1971. Even tho there is the outside pedal, the attraction is still guest controled.

I think they will airlift if it is a compound fracture... I know in NJ they will.

Those things move at about 7mph which would leave plenty of time to get out of the way, CM must've been distracted by something or maybe he fell onto the track at the docking area and got caught between two cars
