So yes, I'm a high school senior and last night (and this morning) I was at Grad Nite so for those who may be going this year or are simply interested I'm going to post a report of last night's Grad Nite.
Disclaimer: If anything I type doesn't make much sense I'm sorry, I got off the bus 45 mintues ago and I'm running off an hour of bad sleep.
Years of experiance has tought Disney to deal with large crowds, particularly the Grad Nite influx of coach busses. Entering the park was easy, there wasn't a horrible amount of waiting on the bus in traffic, and it certainly was nice to have the busses drop off at the resort bus station as opposed to the TTC.
This is the first time I've been to Disney this year and I personally think the castle in it's decorated form looks amazing (way better than a pink birthday cake). There was plenty of time to admire the decor while staring at the castle stage watching Yellow Card, who along with Ciara and Ryan Cabrera made up the musical entertainment. I suppose the choices for music were adequate given current popular music trends, but none of it was really up my alley.
Wait times were not a real issue and lines that I would normally perceive as a longer wait were very short do to a lack of fastpass. Security maintained a very obvious presence (for good reason I suppose) and they were keeping things in rather good order. I personally didn't see any major behavior problems.
Of course all the major attractions were open including IASW which really astounded me. The queue is infinately nicer than the old, and I've never seen it so clean (heck it even smells new). For some reason the lights were on in the Space Mountain Queue (perhaps to quell any foolin' around in the dark?) In addition to the regular attractions there were dance clubs and things like that, but I'm not really into that so I spent my time on the rides of course.
The only rough spot I found with the evening was leaving as the rush of people head for the ferry boat and monorail. It's been years since I've taken the ferry during a peak time (I usually hop my resort bus) and I'm sure the problems seen last night happen every night. We boarded the boat and proceeded upstairs, which barely filled up. What Disney needs to do is to rope off the downstairs until it is filled up top then fill the bottom up. Unless of course there is some capacity limit that would always lead to this vacant upper deck scenario occuring. Maybe someone could shed some light on this?
And one last thing, apperantly on a ferry shortly after mine, someone had the bright idea to jump overboard. I don't know any more than that or if it's even accurate but that's according to someone from my school who was late to the bus because that obviously held up the ferry.
I think that pretty much hits on everything. It was an absolute blast, but too short because now I can't wait to go back in June.
