Bye bye, MGM (not the park)

I just saw this on CNN.com.

LOS ANGELES, California (Hollywood Reporter) -- It's very sad. MGM is gone. So is United Artists. The deal, expected to close on Friday, for a consortium of companies (including Sony Corp.) to purchase the MGM assets for some $4.8 billion reminds us that in today's entertainment universe, it's all about selling DVDs.

My question is, how will this affect the Disney-MGM studios? I don't know the contractual relationship between Disney and MGM. Will this change anything or is it another of those "once the contract is up, we remove the name" like sponsorship drops os SSE, UoE, etc.?

I'm pretty sure Disney already owns the rights for everything in The Great Movie Ride... Not exactly sure on the details, though.

The Disney-Sony studios... Hmmm

Arn`t Sony owned by Matsua??

The Disney-Matsua Studios....

Nope!

At least Sony provide the TV monitors in the park. One less thing to rebrand. Hey - they might even bring back Superstar Television

No, Sony isn't owned by Matsua. Wherever you got that information is wrong.

Matsua in Japan is Panasonic in North America/Europe.

Sony = Sony, everywhere.
Its actually SCE, now. (Sony Computer Entertainment)

So it would be Disney-SCE Studios if that deal were to happen. (Which it won't. SCE is a very Japan-centric organization. They don't do anything in the US/Europe except sell what they sell in Japan. Yes, that means SCE doesn't care about you.)

Somehow The Disney SCE Studios or The Disney Sony Studios just doesn't roll off my tongue:rolleyes::hammer:

It`ll always be MGM for me (old timer..)

An example of an old timer (33 years old) - thinking Matsua owned Sony. The memories going. Shame on me!

Seeing that MGM has not been holding up its share of the movie market, the companies that have bought MGM out may actually have an advantage to the Disney Theme park. The change should bring many more options for imagineers to use and certainly many more movies to base themed rides and coasters on.....I see this as a positive thing and maybe will expand MGM even more!

I won't mind saying good bye to the name of MGM on the studios, but I really hope they atleast keep the rights for the great movie ride scenes! Its one of my most favourite rides.

Time to bring on Disney-ABC Studios!

:brick::brick:Although, they already have the ABC Commissary with its bad food and all. I have alwas refered to the park as MGM Studios and plan to continue calling it that.

I think "Disney Studios" sounds pretty darn stupid. I will still call it "MGM" though. Maybe they can get a last second deal before June 27.

I stopped referring (sp?) to it as MGM years ago. I'd love to see it changed over to just Walt Disney Studios like the Paris studio. That's my opinion, I can have that.

I have always called it Disney Studios.

I though that Disney was not goign to continue useing the MGM name after everything expired. From what I understand, MGM was an Eisiner thing. Now he's gone. The Mouse can take over again.
