Personal hygene solution

This is kind of a weird personal hygene question related to dress. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what type of shorts to wear to prevent male itch (for a nicer term) from developing from the lengthy daily walking at the warmer and humid times of year?? Thus far I have found that the nylon types have prevented this problem from occurring, but the nylon doesn't look that great when going to a nice restaurant directly.

My s/o wears cotton dockers (shorts) he also uses powder in those "sensative" areas. Cotton is the recommended fabric to wear for underware.

Try biking shorts. They are made of very thin spandex. They breathe well and will go well under almost any type of clothing. They also make cargo shorts that have this same bike short lining to them (Kind of like a bathing suit) Also gold bond works well. Avoid the medicated. It has kind of menthol added to it which can be uncomfortable on sensitive areas.

...and this is just when I thought I had read it all in wdwmagic! ;)

I believe cotton clothing and baby powder are the best solutions to your needs.... not that I am very knowledgeable on this matters... lol ;) Good luck!

I totally agree about the baby powder and cotton clothing. While females don't have the same worries as males, we still can become irritated. I love my lavender scented baby powder, I use it in my shoes too.

DH does a lot of walking for his job and he has always used baby powder or cornstarch. 1 hint though, I make DH apply it before he steps out of the shower. We have a very small bathroom and if he does it out of the shower it goes everywhere!
Someone just posted that they thought they had seen it all on these boards, well here's a suggestion not listed yet. Honestly (I promise I'm not joking) I have a friend who also walks a lot on his job. He told me and DH, one night over dinner lol, that he gets a "Rio" every 4-6 weeks! I had no clue what a "Rio" was so I asked him. You guys ready for this?? It's like a bikini wax for men! They start around front and work their way ALL the way back! Of course DH said he'll stick with baby powder, but my friend swears by it. I guess the trick is finding someone to do it. My friend's best friend is a hair dresser and so is his wife. The wife agreed to do it. The 1st few times the hubby insisted on being in the room (back turned). I don't know how he could think anything could possibly go on after that kind of torture!

In addition to Gold Bond, there are some other products that can be used to combat chafing, rubbing and excesive perspiration.

Squeaky Cheeks Perfomance Powder (no kidding that's the name) is used to help prevent chaffing. Similiar to baby powder except it's not heavily scented. It does have some mild medication to prevent the nortorious itches.

BodyGlide (sounds dirty, doesn't it?) is a non-petroluem stick goes on like deodorant. It claims that it won't stain clothes. It can be used on feet to prevent blisters. I've seen this mentioned here before.

Gold Bond works well.
They make a Corn Starch Based Baby Powder that works even Better.
I've tried regular baby powder and it works ok but gives out after a while and if you're in the heat too long and sweat alot, well lets just say that it can cause even worse problems than just a rash.

Body Glide works great too...but it smells bad.

I used to work 12 hour shifts in a factory that was about 100ºF every day.
Not only did I try all this stuff but all my co-workers did as well.

Most of them swore by the corn starch.

The men in our group last December all wore docker shorts. One of them needed powder by the 3rd day. No problem. I zipped into the babycare center and bought some Johnson's corn starch baby powder. He was so happy he bought me a jumbo margarita afterwards!!!! :sohappy:

He carried that little bottle in his pocket for the remainder of our trip.

So count another vote for corn starch baby powder!

Corn starch and babypower work wonders.
As for items rubbing together, buy cycling shorts, or underarmor. They stay in place and do not ride up. Wear normal shorts or whatever over them.
I use underarmor when I run, and when I ran the Disney Marathon. Trust me they work. I buy mine at Sports Authroity. They can be expensive, around $25.

My DH is a committed corn starch man. He just uses the stuff from the grocery store--less than $1 for a 16 oz. box.

Long ago when I had babies, I read that regular talc-based baby powder tends to "ball up" (!! :lookaroun ) when it gets wet. Then you have little sand-like granules causing more friction. Corn starch doesn't do that.

OMG, you stole my thunder................ anyway, this stuff ROCKS!!!!

WARNING: what ever you do, do not pour the "extra strength" powder on that area.............. IT DOESNT NEED IT and besides, the nice tingling sensation from the regular strength ( ) turns into a nighmarish cold burning with the extra strength. it hurts it is so cold i was almost crying................... so go regular strength.

apply generously.

enjoy the tingle!!!

Just think of it as that 'extra special' pixie dust :)

With that said, I'm a baby powder kinda guy - and up until this thread, I thought I was the only one.

Do we need a support group?
