B-day cake and other B-day celebration items at Disney?

My 6 year old daughter has a b-day on the last day of our March trip, and I was researching ways to make it special. I know that they give out birthday pins and can bring a cupcake to the table at the sit-downs (we are going to try to book Cindy's royal table for lunch for that day), but what else can be done to make it "Disney Special"?

I recall reading somewhere about getting a full cake for the b-day dessert instead of just a cupcake (at extra cost, of course), but don't have many details. Anyone know of this or other add-ons to make a little one's b-day at Disney extra special?

Nearly all of the restaurants can provide the typical 6" round yellow or chocolate cake for a birthday with little to no advanced notice for around $22. To do something more than that you will have to go through Disney Cakes and they will need at least 48 hours notice. Prices will start at about $50. Their number is 407-827-2253. You will want to call them well before the 48 hour time frame as they are only open from 8-4 (I think) and they aren't exactly the best at returning calls. You can also order a celebration cake through your resort that can be delivered to the room.

Thanks for the info, a few follow-on questions:

1) Do the yellow cakes have any decoration on them?

2) If served as part of a meal that has a dessert included (I believe Cinderella's Royal Table does?) is it served in place of the standard dessert?

3) If I let the staff of CRT know that it's her birthday do they do anything special (princesses singing happy birthday, etc)?

Also, I found an entry for "My Mini surprise Cake" on the Disney / WDW site: Cakes - http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/celebrations/customizations/

Any details on this item (cost, etc)?

Thanks for the info, a few follow-on questions:

1) Do the yellow cakes have any decoration on them? Not much. They will have some Mickey confetti and happy birthday written on it and that is about it.

2) If served as part of a meal that has a dessert included (I believe Cinderella's Royal Table does?) is it served in place of the standard dessert? Every time we have gotten one desert has come out as well.

3) If I let the staff of CRT know that it's her birthday do they do anything special (princesses singing happy birthday, etc)? Have them note on the reservation and they will typically try to do something special. You can also be the basic $22 cake on the reservation as well.

Hmm.. if it comes in addition to the regular dessert, that'd be one stuffed party of 6!

Might go for the cupcake at the meal and the cake in the resort room path.

If in a resort room, do you just contact the desk when it's time for the cake, or do they take it to the room while you're at the parks and it sits there?

When I ordered my cake, I was staying at Pop and I had to go to the food court and pick it up. I just did it after we checked in, I told my daughter I had to run to the car real quick and I grabbed her cake.

We ordered one of the cakes from the Disney Cake people for my daughters birthday breakfast at Akershus. It was really really yummy! It cost $ 40.00.

Here is a pic:

Just as an FYI...many people on different threads say you can personalize the 8" and when I called they told me you could not. I ordered a 10" cake that had a screenprint of mickey and happy birthday written on it. Cost me about $60. A bit expensive but it came out really good and I would definitely order again.
