Grand Floridian gingerbread house under construction

The Grand Floridian bakery has started construction on the gingerbread house. This will only be backstage until beginning to mid November when they will start in the lobby. The full decorations are set to go out sometime near the end of November. As always, dates are subject to change, so nothing is set in stone.

Bring on the roasted chestnuts!

Yep, it gets built every year, smells lovely, just a shame it can't be eaten at the end of the season.

Of course it's not set in stone. It's set in gingerbread.

I am sort of torn by this. Yes, it's great to see the house, and it is a fun thing to see built.

But also in a time whee unemployment is skyrocketing, people are out of work, and for some getting food for thier children to eat is an everyday worry, the idea of just throwing away 800 lbs of flour, plus all the other stuff in it just sort of sits wrong with me.

I know, there are tons of food displays all over WDW, and all over the US for that matter. And there is plenty of other waste as well. But for some reason the GF Gingerbread house just stands out to me.

Sorry, I keep a countdown going all year long. And expecially this year since we'll at the world.

We are flying down Dec. 7th for our second trip this year and our first during the Christmas season. I can't wait to see the decorations and the gingerbread house.

Even if it were not built it would not affect the employment or hunger levels of anyone. Enjoy the house, buy a gingerbread house from the lady in the GF house and donate it to someone to eat.
