Well as this package has only been available to book for travel from 1/5/05 to today, you may not get many responses of those who have tried it as of yet. I would be happy to answer any questions you may have and also feel free to PM me if you like.

The basics of the plan are:
The dining plan is part of a vacation package that includes accomodations at a Disney Resort and any Magic Your Way Ticket of your choice. This plan cannot be purchased separately. Everyone in the room must be on the same package and ticket options, and the plan is for your length of stay.

For each night of your stay each guest age 3 and older will receive:

1 Table Service Meal (appetizer, entree, desert, non-alcoholic beverage, tax and tip)
1 Counter Service Meal (entree or entree combo, desert, non-alcoholic beverage, tax)
1 Snack (1 popcorn OR 20oz bottle of Coke product or water, OR frozen ice ceam bar)

For example a family of 4 (all over the age of 3) staying for 5 nights/6 days will receive: 20 Table meals, 20 counter meals, and 20 snacks. Upon check-in all entitlements are pooled into a central account that can be used by anyone in the party and may be used in any order for the length of your package stay until all entitlements are depleted or midnight on your check-out day.

It takes 2 Table Service meals per person to dine at any of the 10 signature restuarants, or at any of the 3 Dinner Shows. The plan includes over 100 locations in the Disney Theme Parks, Water Parks, and Disney Resort Hotels. A complete list is available at www.disneyworld.com

In most cases the meal plan can pay for itself by enjoying the Table Service meals alone, so it is very hard to loss money on this package.

I hope this helps! :sohappy:

This really depends on where you like to eat.

Check out the menus for all the restaurants at http://www.allearsnet.com/menu/menus.htm

Based on what you might eat where, see if it adds up to $35 per person per nite. If you like to eat at the signature restaurants, you need to pick one appitiser/salad, one entree, and one dessert that will equal roughly $50-60 per person. That's two days worth of meals minus lunches and snacks. That's a little harder to break even on at some of the signature restaurants.

Yes premature but...

Thanks for the info! I know it is a premature question, but from my vantage point this really sounds too good to be true. Our last visit (October 2004) I budgeted $100/night for my wife, myself and two girls under 10. (This was for a sit down meal and a counter meal - we ate breakfast in our room) We also ate once at Chef Mickey's which was about $100 itself. So the way I see it is I could eat a character meal each day with my table service tickets for each of us and still get a snack and a counter service meal as well. Am I looking at this right, because it seems to be saving me anywhere from $10/day to $150/day depending on what we want to splurge on!!! Thanks again for your info and hopefully this topic will arise in time.

YES you are looking at this right. You can easily save lots of $$$ on this meal plan. The average guest will almost break even on the table service meal alone. The only guest I could see that would not benefit from this plan would be very light eaters, or those who like to enjoy only counter-service or quick bites locations to eat on the run.

And yes this benifits Disney because you will be more likely spend that money on other things (longer stays, more repeat stays) to come back again and again, and again.... Disney is making a week long vacation more affordable for the average family to make a visit to Walt Disney World not just a once in a lifetime trip, but an annual vacation destination. This benifits the Guest, the company and the stockholders. A WIN WIN WIN for all! :sohappy:

...also, when you stay in an Moderate or Deluxe Resort you now get a refrigerator and a coffer maker in the room at no additional cost. Anyone want Fruit Loops for breakfast? (BTW they are sold in most of the resort's gift shops!) :drevil:

Ok help me out here, sorry to be the idiot of this thread, but, I am not that familiar with this. We have ap's and are looking at returning to WDW in early May. Can we take advantage of this even though we will be booking room only because we have ap's? and am I reading the prices right? $35 per adult and $10 per child 3-9? We are two adults and 2 children (4 & 8) so this would be $90 for the family? We usually plan $100 per day for the family, so this could very well save us money. thanks for any help and for being understanding as I learn about all of these changes!

You can't take advantage of Magic Your Way Dining, but AP holders CAN take advantace of the Disney Dining Experience. $50 for the card (only one necessary for parties up to 10) and then get 20% off your sit down meals, and even some counter service (Animal Kindgdom and some resort food courts). A great deal if you will be eating more than two or three table service meals. Full info at Deb's site:

yeah what he said!!! Seriously though Dwarful as soon as I heard about this plan, I signed up!!!! Plus the 20% is good at quite a few more restaurants, especially in EPCOT, than the ones that are listed as accepting the MYW Plan!! Belle

The dining option is only good with a package. For us, even tho the room rates appear to be at rack rate, with the restaurant savings, I did the math, we're still way ahead.

OK time to throw some numbers out!

First - I know it all depends on what you want to do and where you want to eat. With that said I took a regular day at MK for my family (2 adults and 2 children 3-9) and weighed it against the AP discounts on food.

Liberty Tree for Lunch :slurp: (our favorite) spent $60.00
Pinocchio's for dinner $32.00
Snack (if we had $) $15.00
Budget for family ($100/day) spent $107.00 (not to mention watching what we order and no appetizer and desert at LT)

With the Dining Plan I will only spend $90 and get to eat about $100 at LT and $35 at Pinocchio's and snack in the park for each of us ($15) So I would spend about $150.

AP (20%) on food for regular visit above watching what we eat:
LT $60 -20% = $48
Pinoc $32 - 20% = $25.60
No Snacks discounts that I know of (still $15)
Budget for family ($100/day) spent with AP discount $ 88.60

Yes this total is below the $90 dining package but with the Dining Package you get to eat without watching every dime and you would get an appetizer and dessert at lunch.

In my state of limited funds I see this dining package as a solid yes. We do not have the $$$ to eat multiple table service meals to get the savings from the AP and I usually do not have the $$$ to buy the AP up front. I know the room discounts are very good but they are not always there.

And the big kicker for my family is that we could swap that LT visit and go to Chef Mickey's or any other Character dinner for no more added $. In past visits that would be an additional $50 add to my budget. And as far as I can tell we could do a character dinner each day as well as try other restaurants that have more expensive menus than Liberty Tree.

I do appreciate your comments and I saw another family out there that have 2 adults and 2 children as well. Sounds like we are in the same boat.:)

Thanks I have a question. From what you said it sounds like they don't distingush between child and adult meals. Can kids only order kids meals?

What about snacks. Pop corn and or/ ice cream daily is rather borning. Especailly when there are dole wips, cinnamom pretelzs, Egg rolls, and other yummys out there, (now I am hungry!) DD won't even eat popcorn. :lookaroun

It does sound like a doable meal plan. I think you can get your moneys worth. Being DVC and AP we do ok, buying some food, spilting some meals and doing DDE (now, this will be the 1st time)

It would be nice to have the option.

I think I can answer your questions. Yes the children must order from a childs menu when one is available. The snack items listed are what they list on the brochure.

I do have the brochures on my computer in both color and black and white. If anyone would like to see a copy, please e-mail me and state your forum name and whether you would like a b&w or color brochure e-mailed to you. The color brochure is a very large file and you must have adobe acrobat in order to open them.

Just to clairfy a few things...

The 20% discount is only if you are a Disney Dining Experience member. That's a $50 add-on if you're an annual passholder. Not an automatic 20% off meals if you have an AP.

And the DDE 20% discount is only good at table service restaurants, so there would not be a 20% discount at Pinocchio's Village Haus since it is counter service.

Absolutely correct there Moustronaut!!! I havent sat down and run the numbers as of yet. Then again numbers in this case could be kind of difficult. Last year I was in Disney for a gran total of 24 days over the course of 6 trips. The vast majority of my meals were of the sit down type, not counter service and I got the AP discount on my room at either a Moderate or Value level resort each time. I Am an AP holder because I go to the parks so frequently. I dont know if that would work for one or two trips. I think that Disney offered the DDE card to the Passholders because they couldnt include us in the meal plan!!! Any thoughts?? Belle
