Chilling Halloween Changes at Space Mountain, Spooky New Fireworks Plus Favorite Halloween Traditions Create Fun for Everyone at Disneyland Resort

Halloween Time Returns Sept. 25 as Mickey and Pals
And Disney Villains Transform Parks for the Season

ANAHEIM, Calif. (Sept. 1, 2009) – Spooky new fireworks and ghoulish screams at Space Mountain add to the fun when Halloween Time returns to Disneyland Resort Sept. 25-Nov. 1. Halloween Time offers families a chance to celebrate the season as they interact with some of Disney’s most beloved characters decked out in seasonal costumes at Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure parks. Guests will also enjoy a unique opportunity to experience some spooky fun with Disney’s more sinister characters, the Disney villains. In addition, Mickey’s Trick-or-Treat Party returns for 12 special nights in October.

For older kids and adults, Halloween Time offers a new attraction: Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy in Tomorrowland at Disneyland. The scary new experience will begin as a typical Space Mountain adventure, but will suddenly launch voyagers into an uncharted and haunted section of the universe. Ghosts appear out of the starry darkness and swirling galaxies of Space Mountain, reaching out as if to grab guests as they speed through space. The exhilarating drops and curves of the journey are punctuated by piercing screams, creepy sound effects and haunting music. The Halloween transformation occurs outside the mountain as well, as frightening images, audio and lights illuminate the Space Mountain exterior.

Also new this year is “Halloween Screams - A Villainous Surprise in the Skies.” The new fireworks spectacular will haunt the nighttime sky throughout the Halloween season. To start the show, “Master of Scare-omonies” Jack Skellington appears in a flash of fire above Sleeping Beauty Castle. Thanks to Jack’s ghoulish charm, haunting melodies fill the air and a Halloween pyrotechnics extravaganza explodes into the night. Such classic Disney villains as Maleficent, Ursula the Sea Witch and Oogie Boogie join in the “spirit” of the celebration, and even Zero, Jack’s faithful ghost dog, will make an appearance. Spectators in Disneyland are encouraged to participate in a bone-chilling Halloween Scream-Along during the show.

Jack Skellington also returns to take over the Haunted Mansion and bring back Haunted Mansion Holiday to New Orleans Square in Disneyland. Transformed to a mix of Halloween spookiness and Christmas tradition, Haunted Mansion Holiday is inspired by the classic animated film “Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas.” Jack and his friends provide plenty of havoc and surprises as they celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Haunted Mansion in their unusual style. Jack’s return to the Haunted Mansion includes the traditional Halloween/Christmas gingerbread house in the Mansion Ballroom, with some special spooky surprises in this year’s design.

For not-so-frightful fun, Halloween Time offers special pleasures for children and parents.

· Main Street, U.S.A. in Disneyland is again transformed for the Pumpkin Festival, where more than 300 “non-identical” pumpkins will be on display in shop windows.

· Visitors to Big Thunder Ranch in Frontierland will sometimes find the ranch animals dressed in costume for a seasonal Halloween Roundup, with pumpkin carvers, Halloween décor and activities for youngsters, all presided over by Sheriff Woody.

· Next door at Big Thunder Barbecue, Miss Chris and the Roundup musicians add Halloween songs to their repertoire.

· Meeting favorite Disney characters will be easier than ever as Disney villains gather to plot Halloween mischief in “it’s a small world” Mall in Disneyland, while other characters in seasonal costumes greet guests in Town Square, Main Street, U.S.A. in Disneyland and Sunshine Plaza in Disney’s California Adventure.

· Also available throughout both parks are special Halloween treats, including menu items such as Zero’s Ghostly Ghoulash served in a dog dish in honor of Zero.

· Special Halloween Time gifts are offered in Disneyland Resort shops. Gifts include jack-o-lantern mouse ears and collectable pins depicting Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and their friends in Halloween costumes.

More spine-tingling fun can be found in Disney’s California Adventure at The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, where a “supernatural” event happened on Halloween evening, 1939, forever haunting the building.

Also at Disney’s California Adventure, Sunshine Plaza becomes Candy Corn Acres, with Mickey’s pal Goofy up to his tricks again – attempting to wow the world with his unusual candy corn treats. Candy corn carrots, candy corn pumpkins and candy corn grapes are just a few of the candy corn items Goofy is harvesting.

Back by popular demand is Mickey’s Trick-or-Treat Party, a one-of-a-kind celebration that returns to Disney’s California Adventure for 12 nights in October (2, 8, 9, 15, 16, 21, 22, 23, 28, 29, 30 and 31). Mickey’s Trick-or-Treat Party lets adults and children alike dress up and trick-or-treat in the ultimate Disney neighborhood. Highlights this year will include:

· 25 Treat Stops located throughout Disney’s California Adventure
· All your favorite Disney’s California Adventure rides and attractions
· A Hollywood Bat-Lot Bash in Hollywood Pictures Backlot
· A nightly “Mickey’s Trick-or-Treat on the Street” cavalcade
· Character photo locations featuring Disney villains, princesses and other favorites
· Pirate’s Wharf, a transformation of the Pacific Wharf area into an entertainment area, photo location, craft area and games area

This separate-ticket nighttime event gives children and their families a chance to dress as their favorite princesses, goblins or heroes and trick-or-treat throughout the park. Tickets purchased in advance are $32 most days, while tickets purchased on the event day are $39. For Oct. 30 and 31, all tickets to Mickey’s Trick or Treat Party are $42. Favorite Disney characters, including Mickey himself, will be in attendance in their favorite costumes. It’s the ideal environment to have fun, eat special holiday treats, play interactive games, listen to “spirited” music and watch a nightly character cavalcade that celebrates the season.

small update from Mouseplanet's recent update:

Steven Davison, creator of the Believe..., Remember.... Dreams Come True, Wishes and Magical fireworks shows confirmed for MousePlanet that he is designing the new Halloween fireworks show, and promises there will be a "surprise" element in the show.

Mr. Davison sure is busy these days :D and that's a good thing because his talent is unmatched.

curious about the surprise element.. some have speculated that it could be a flying Zero. That could be fun :)

Hi everyone. Looooong time lurker, but my first post. Great community here with so much good info.

I'm a veteran WDW'er but am taking my first trip to DL in September. While the Halloween stuff sounds great, it actually makes me a little sad. You see, my flight leaves for home on September 25! I'm devastated that I won't be able to experience Anaheim's HM or SM. :( HM I knew would be a gamble, but SM came as a surprise.

Does anyone know if there is a possibility of soft openings for these two? And has there been any mention of ToT closing for its Halloween facelift? The Mansion and Mountain are close to breaking my heart. The Tower will crack it for sure...

In the past few years Haunted Mansion Holiday has opened a day earlier than expected, Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy is really anyones guess but if regular Space Mountain was suppose to reopen in Nov 2005 and ended up opening July 2005 there may be a chance for an earlier opening. Also most of the HalloweenTime stuff is usually out prior to the start date so you may catch them. I dont think much changes for Tower other than some Halloween decorations added.

Halloween fireworks?!!? YES! I'm so excited. HalloweenTime at DL keeps getting bigger and bigger!

Not sure what to think of Space just yet.

I'm glad I chose to come home for a weekend in October! I can't wait to see everything!

A few highlights from Al's newest article-

http://miceage.micechat.com/allutz/al072809a.htm
Before then however, on September 25th the new Halloween fireworks will debut, and Nightastic will become an unfortunate memory not quite on the scale of Light Magic, but certainly not as successful as TDA had hoped. The big surprise for the spooky Halloween fireworks will be a flying Zero the dog, borrowing the cables for a few weeks from Tinkerbelle and Dumbo.
And of course there's the new Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy that TDA was forced to admit to in a huff after we alerted you to it. Ghost Galaxy will be using some of the special effects equipment installed back in 2006 for the failed Rockin' Space Mountain promotion, but there will also be new lighting and props installed along the track and in the loading area during the two week refurbishment this September. Once that new Ghost Galaxy equipment is installed and tested, future versions of Ghost Galaxy should only require a few days of rehab instead of two weeks.
ust in the past week, Disneyland President Ed Grier and his TDA planners have held a few meetings to consider another element for this year's HalloweenTime promotion; a return engagement of Captain EO to the Magic Eye Theater in Tomorrowland. This idea was of course prompted by the sudden death of Michael Jackson, and the waves of nostalgia Disneyland fans suddenly felt for that salute to 1980's music video kitsch. The decision on whether or not to bring Captain EO back for HalloweenTime has not yet been made, but TDA is now pulling together the numbers and feasibility on what it would take to give the theater a quick Captain EO overlay and retheme.
There's actually quite a bit of work that would need to go into this temporary changeover, with WDI approved signage and testing and training involved, not to mention the pesky issue of Kodak's sponsorship that mandates that Honey I Shrunk The Audience themed commercial to play in the waiting area. But since attendance at this venue has plummeted in recent years to the point where it only hosts a tiny fraction of its daily capacity, a return of Captain EO would be a great shot in the arm for this almost forgotten facility. And of course there would be swarms of Annual Passholders flooding the park to see this attraction one more time.
http://miceage.micechat.com/allutz/al072809a.htm

Zero would be a great addition for the Halloween fireworks. Now we would just need something for Believe...In Holiday Magic although I do think that show is just fine as is.
Im excited for Ghost Galaxy should be a nice change up.
Now Captain EO I think is a bigger rumor at this point but who knows DLR is already pulling a lot for this HalloweenTime and hopefully continues to keep growing at a good rate considering it only started in 06 were already off to a pretty good start.

My roommate and I are heading to the west coast specifically for theme parks, LA, and halloween stuff and actually picked the perfect time to go (Oct. 7th-21st).

I am really excited about finally getting to see the Haunted Mansion layover and Ghost Galaxy, but their Halloween party doesn't seem to hold a candle to ours. They don't have a Disney Villians show or Headless Horseman or the atmosphere of the castle. Plus the fact that DCA is under heavy construction these days for Mermaid, Paradise Pier and Carsland. We'll probably hold out for MNSSHP instead.

I really hope they bring back Captain EO, but it still seems like a shot in the dark.

I just wanted to point out that DL isn't having Halloween parties.. Halloween Time and all of its offerings are free to all paying guests, and it is not a ticketed event like it is at the MK.

DCA on the other hand does have a Trick-or-Treat party which is in fact a ticketed event.

hope you enjoy your trip.

As for the new rumors regarding Halloween Time - I really hope they bring back Captain EO. I was about 4-5 years old when I saw it at DL... would love to be able to see it again.

I guess the rumors were true about the flying Zero :sohappy: a while back Al had said something about Santa and his sleigh flying over the castle during the X-mas fireworks show. i wonder if that idea was scrapped or if they will ever consider adding that in the future.

The Captain EO rumors have been gaining some steam.

http://blogs.ocweekly.com/navelgazing/dishney/disneyland-captain-eo-return-1/

Good news--kind of. Depending on who or what you want to believe, the Weekly has received an inside tip that the 3D space-y alien thriller starring Michael Jackson will indeed be returning to its former home at Tomorrowland just in time for Halloween festivities and that park officials have been keeping mum on the event just for the element of surprise (and hype).

The tip reads:

"Actually, I was in the theater last Friday, spoke with staff who had said that they ARE in fact planning a return of Captain EO. The creative staff (Imagineering) had been in the theater the day before to see how they could quickly install the old show before Halloween time.

My guess is that they are remaining silent on this issue to keep the element of surprise and to keep the park from being over run if they announce it too early.

Keep in mind, the show closed in 1998 at Disneyland, five years after any allegations. So that was not a factor in it leaving. It was an old show at the time.

A return right now is the perfect choice for Disney because now Michael Jackson is relevant again and there will be a draw. The show will still hold up and will be more well received than Honey I shrunk the Audience. This gives them time to plan a NEW show that will eventually be installed into the theater."

Nice! Now: Can you imagine the lines?? (But, of course, we'll probably be there anyway. We waited three hours for the Nemo submarine, after all.)

Ok so I'v heard the name of the Halloween fireworks show is said to be "Halloween Screams" but as long as its a good show and I hoping the whole "Zero" flying is true.

Oh to see the Magic Eye theatre full again! It hasn't been at capacity in 10 years.

I hope there's no backlash if EO does indeed return. I honestly think that the only people who really really want this to happen are long-time APers.

Some news concerning the 2 maybe 3 new expansions of HalloweenTime this year, Halloween Screams, Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy, and the possibility of Captain EO

http://miceage.micechat.com/allutz/al082509a.htm
By late September, more DCA construction and the latest version of HalloweenTime will be underway, with the nightly Halloween Screams fireworks featuring a flying Zero sure to be a crowd pleaser. While official confirmation of getting Captain EO into the mix in time for Halloween is not yet clear, the Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy will create plenty of buzz on its own.

There is a real concern now that the Halloween overlay for Space Mountain, featuring rather creepy onboard music, screeching ghosts and ghouls, and frightening visual effects, may prove too scary for young children tall enough to ride but not yet ready for an intense fright-fest. Ghost Galaxy is definitely a more amped up version of the regular Space Mountain, and park management is now trying to decide how to make it clear this could be a very scary experience for school-aged children.

Not only is there stuff on the inside of the mountain but theres some stuff on the outside as well, Should be interesting to see what they pull off. I like the current strobe effect thats there now.:D

Sounds like Zero is a go then? also flame throwers again?:sohappy:

.

Hmm I wonder what this could be? HBG I doubt will be part of HMH, something else?

Edit- Also looks like Suburban Legends will be kicking off HalloweenTime at Tomorrowland Terrace just like they did for Summer Nightastic!
I like surprises. :D

Fall + Disneyland + amazing decorations/attractions/Halloween mood = the BEST. I can't wait.
