Things to do in Epcot

Hi all,

I was here thinking and reading the threads and it hit me that I need suggestions on things to do in Epcot.

We have only been to Epcot once, but to the world several times. My DH just could not find what was so great about Epcot, of course he is a big thrill rider so since MS, Soarin & TT are the only real rides what are some fun things to do. I know they have the KP attraction which I can plan for us. But how to you go about Epcot?

Dig out a park map of EPCOT and read it :D

There's loads to see, do and savour and if you do it right it will take you a couple of days to do it. EPCOT's not all thrill rides (as you've said) its about discovery, foods and cultures

I go on all of the rides including smaller ones like Journey Into Imagination, Living with the Land and Maelstrom.
I spend an hour in the Seas pavillion.
I eat pastries from Sunshine Seasons.
I visit each country in the World Showcase and truly explore it. Visit the attractions, stores, and talk to the CMs. They are all from that country and are very interesting people.
I watch the street performers.

If your husbands idea of a great time is Hershey Park, Six Flags, Dorney Park type venues, I am sorry to say he is not going to find that at EPCOT.

EPCOT is less rides and more passive interaction. There are plenty of wonderful shows to see - both "permanent" ones in the countries and then there are the entertainers that are out and about. Many of the "rides" are not really rides but more along the lines of "moving exhibits"

Phonedave,

Thanks for your response. Yeah my DH is not the extravert type. I am though, and so is DD-9. we both like to sit watch shows, for us it is not always about our stomachs being in our throats. I guess when I posted I was looking for the the best approach to those that are thrill seekers. So I guess I will just leave DH to ride MS over & over again.

Walk through the WS at night & view Illuminations there.
Make sure to take the boat rides in Mexico & Norway.

Eat at LeCellier in Canada; Princess Storybook in Norway; The Garden Grill in The Land.

Make sure you experience:
Soarin'
Living w/ the Land
Finding Nemo
The Living Seas exhibits
Mission Space
Test Track
Spaceship Earth

Walk over to the Boardwalk at night & talk a stroll - it's very relaxing.

The WS in Epcot is my FAVORITE part of WDW. My husband and daughter both love it. We love the food:slurp:, drinks:p, and the shows:lol:! They are all wonderful! Just take it slow and explore each pavillion (as others have said).

It funny we stayed at the boardwalk last yr and walked to Cape May @ the beach club, so I guess all the folks we saw at night were walking back from Epcot. but thanks for your response.

Epcot has crept up and become a tie for my favorite Disney park. Here's some things that have lead it to be that way:

1. Eating or drinking around the world. DH & I, and two friends had something to eat or drink in each country. We had someone take our picture with what we purchased, in front of the country sign. It was a BLAST! I also purchased the World Showcase passport, which is typically for kids I think. Kids, or people like me, take it to each Kidcot station, there's one per country. They would write a message to her in their language & give her a passport stamp. It's tons of fun & makes a great souvenier!

2. Segway Tour: It's pricey, but quite fun. I believe you do have to be 16 to take this tour, so this would not work with kids. If you & DH ever get a chance to take the tour one day though, it's amazing. It takes you through World Showcase.

3. The Rides: You already mentioned the big rides. They are some of my favorites in WDW. Spaceship Earth, Soarin, Test Track....etc. Love em all!

4. Innoventions: My DH & I go first thing, before they get really crowded. We have so much fun playing all the games & being big kids. This is really fun if you have kids too! We obviously can't wait for those days!

5. Miyuki: I mention this because all the kids around me were LOVING it. Miyuki makes candy in Japan, and gives it away to a few select people for free. She is brilliant! She asks people to choose an animal, and then molds & paints it in about 1 minute =-)

Just a few ideas for ya ~ :)

let me just say we tried Epcot 3 yrs ago and my DH was just dissapointed, and is something that you mention some of the stuff that we had done. We have a DD that was 16 @ the time and they did the segways.

Of course the rides did them.

As for Miyuki- I saw that on the travel channel when they did a segment on Season of Disney.

Ialso think we had a bad trip at that time a cell phone got lost, it was JUly the 4th so the park was PACKED. and when we went to watch illuminations their we a few folks that were intoxicated so they were be disruptive. anyway I thought if I get a few suggetions of a few gems I can get my DH to enjoy Epcot. So thank you so much for your ideas, oh I also was told that there is a maze you can go through?can you confirm that?

I think most people either hate or love EPCOT. Several years ago my husband and I took a 10 day trip to WDW and used 3 full days at EPCOT! We love that park-both Future World and WS.

It is not possible to flit through the World Showcase and get the real effect the countries.
Try spending an hour or two in the United Kingdom, catch the British Invasion in UK, get fish and chips, and then over to Canada for their live entertainment. The World Showcase Players are a MUST SEE, as well as the serveur Amusant in France and Impressions de France. You HAVE to see the film in the American Adventure. I ALWAYS cry! Well see, you got me started:lol:.

I can't wait for our trip! When we go to EPCOT, we always take a late afternoon trip to Boulangerie Patisserie for goodies to eat during Illuminations.

The Magic Kingdom closing is awesome, but so is the EPCOT closing, to sit and watch the park empty after Illuminations and listen to the music from Tapestry of Dreams. Wey-la, wey-a-la, wey-la, wey ay ay, o wey-a-la wey:lookaroun. :zipit:

totally agree...and your absolutely right. it does seem as though you either love or hate it. i think you gain a lot of appreciation for it as you get older. or at least i did. i know growing up, epcot wasn't something i was to keen on. but now i look forward to going.

Make sure you go over to Club Cool and try out all the different soda flavors. We always have a good time doing this, we know the ones that are disgusting but still feel the need to try them again!

We spend most of our time on our 8 days World trips, in Epcot. Last trip, we saw Off Kilter in Canada, ran over to UK and saw the Brittish Invasion, ran back to Canada and saw Off Kilter again and then...yep, ran back to UK for another Brittish Invasion. My son carried it one further by seeing yet another Off Kilter show. Our favorite rides in Epcot are Test Track and Spaceship Earth. We thoroughly enjoy exploring all the countries around World Showcase in a very leisurely pace, sometimes stopping to just sit and enjoy the view, food, etc. Usually have lunch back in the American Pavillion (Liberty Inn). We've stood in different locations to view the fireworks so we haven't a favorite for that. I love shopping in Japan best of all and getting a new pearl. Some times we'll park at Epcot and monorail to MK and return back at 3pm to Epcot for the rest of the day. Of all the parks I think Epcot is the only park that we actually can spend and entire day in.
