Test Track and General Motors

Seeing that the automobile industry is suffering in these economic times, is there a chance GM might drop their sponsorship with Test Track?

Or does GM even mess with Test Track still?

I hope not either! Test Track is one of my favorities. However, if GM does shut down this could be a cause of concern for Test Track, no?

This was talked about a while ago...when some people said Disney was thinking about theming it to Cars when GM pulled out or something like that to which I basically responded :eek::confused::cry::fork:

IIRC it's official that GM is ending its Test Track sponsorship at the end of this year. I believe it was an article in the Orlando Sentinel.

The word is that Toyota is interested next.

Ditto.

At last word, GM did not renew their sponsorship. However, they will continue to fund the attraction til year's end.

Nothing definite on Toyota and whether or not they're signing, but they have expressed interest.

If Toyota takes over sponsorship would they make it more hybrid oriented since EPCOT is suppoed to be environmentally friendly and all that stuff. Just a idea.

Toyota is the greatest car company in the world and they will expect the ride they sponsor to be up to very high standards. I hope Disney is ready to raise the bar for them.

Ha, yeah, right. If boring, bland and mediocre are your cup of tea.

I think by "succesful" we are talking about companies that are actually profitable year after year and aren't begging taxpayers for billions of dollars to survive month to month. By that measure, Toyota is more "succesful" than Government Motors (GM).

Honda has been a great sponsor of stuff at Disneyland for years now, after GM was booted out of Disneyland around '03. At Disneyland, Honda sponsors a neat Asimo robot show in Tomorrowland, plus the fireworks and annual Grad Nites. Honda also sponsors Autopia over in Hong Kong Disneyland.

Honda is also a company that is "succesful" in that un-Detroit like fashion of pulling in big profits year after year and making quality products that consumers want to buy at top dollar, so Honda would be a good bet for Epcot as well. And they wouldn't need a bailout to do it.

The only thing that would change would be the "branding," the stuff in the queue...and the preshow.

I don't think a company like Honda or Toyota would love to see a preshow with a bunch of GM vehicles.

I never said I liked GM or care for what theyre doing right now. But to call Toyota the "greatest car company in the world" is selling short countless other manufactures that make much more exciting and interesting automobiles.

The good thing is that with a new sponsor, maybe some of the issues with the ride, like broken displays and such, may be fixed. But as seen with SSE, this may include a lengthy refurb.

Greatest is a weasel word anyway.

Whenever someone says something is the "greatest" or the "best" I just sort of let that comment slide on by. It shows the person did not put much thought into making the comment in the first place.

While I don't necessarily believe that they are the "greatest car company", and don't completely disagree that they have some boring and bland cars (mediocre is debatable), they are also the company who brings us Lexus, which, in many respects, is far from boring or bland - in particular the F-line (IS-F, LS-F, etc.).

Maybe Ford could sponsor next. They didn't take any government money and outsold Toyota last month. They also seem to know what they're doing product line wise and are trying to use the "ecoboost" (aka Turbo Direct Injection) engine line to bring better fuel economy to larger numbers of vehicles without the expense of hybrids.

Regarding Toyota, the Lexus division makes some really nice cars but the regular Toyota brand isn't any better than Chevy, Ford, and Honda.

Yup pretty much. Toyota used to destroy GM / Ford cars in the past in reliability (especially in the 90's). But that gap is now very much gone. New GM / Ford cars are just as well made as your basic Corolla.

Toyota is definitely a good company though and I think they would be a great fit to pick up the sponsorship of Test Track when GM pulls out. Honda as well. Heck, anyone :) As long as its sponsored
