I don't know, but if you're able to get in on this you definitely could get a nice piece of history.

Hey, I'm heading out tomorrow. Looks like good timing finding this out so I can drop off some entries!

Direct Link to Sweepstakes for PassHolders

This spring, Imagineers will perform a "space-lift" to return this classic attraction to its 'opening day' splendor. This has given us the opportunity to provide a one-of-a-kind chance for one lucky Passholder . . . a chance to own a piece of Space Mountain history!

Sweepstakes begins on March 2, 2009. To enter, download and fill out the official entry form and drop it in the entry boxes located at the Tomorrowland Light and Power Merchandise shop in the Magic Kingdom Park. Be sure to take one last zip through space while you are there!

Passholder Sweepstakes Details

The deadline for the 2009 Passholder Sweepstakes Celebrating Space Mountain is April 3, 2009 at 5:00 p.m. EDT. One winner will be notified on or about April 15, 2009. For more details about entry procedures, prizes, conditions and limitations, see complete sweepstakes rules.

By the way, in the rules, there is a mail-in entry for Passholders to enter as well.

I'd like to think that this would be something cool, like a ride vehicle, but I have the strange feeling that it will be a tad disappointing. Like one of the old TV's and cameras they had in the exit.

You got my hopes up for a minute there! Then I read the "U.S. Only" in the rules and got depressed yet again! Why the xenophobia, Disney? Why?

How do you know it will be "the ultimate collectors piece" when you don't even know what it is? :hammer:

I'm holding off on getting too excited about this until we know more. But as others have stated, my guess is that it will be a disappointment.

This reminds me of something they did at Disneyland back when they got rid of the Main Street Electrical Parade. They had all these promotions urging people to get to Disneyland to see the Electrical Parade "before it disappears forever", and people came out in record numbers. Then they sold individual lightbulbs from the floats as "collector's items" and probably made a killing on those as well. Not surprisingly, the Electrical Parade didn't "disappear forever" as they had said it would. It came back a short time later as a "new" parade in California Adventure!

Getting an AP now wouldn't help. The rules state you have to have been a AP holder in good standing for the entire entry period. I'm not sure why they would do that, I'd think they might sell quite a few APs...

I guess one of the perks of AP holders. That is cool. I can live with that. Just dont change that once i become a AP holder.
