Virgin Megastores around the country -- including the one in Downtown Disney -- will close this summer, a company spokeswoman confirmed Monday afternoon.

Virgin Megastore, which sells music CDs and video, had previously announced plans to close stores in San Francisco and Union Square in New York City. The company had six stores across the country.

Virgin stores in the UK sold a good year or so ago to Zavvi... who went bust over Christmas.

DTD, PI - you`re in a real mess now. TDOs timing with their choice of path couldn`t have been worse.

Yessir, you said it.

Either is undergoes a HUGE restructuring with this *new* () PI area, or it just sits there. I'm guessing the latter.

Disney must have a plan for this, they had to have known this was coming eventually. I mean, no one is that short-sighted, right?

Fortunately for them, some of their choices could be reversed. Quickly and relatively cheaply.
Of course, they are too dumb to see it.

Tell me about it. We both know how they can easily get out of this mess - a mess that is getting bigger all the time.

There again, this is the company who still own Discovery Island and River Country.

That sounds like a big hit to the area. Virgin is one of those things I just synonymously associate with DtD...like Cirque, WoD, the Lego Store, or the movie theater. If it sits there empty, that's not good.

Wonder what "new and exciting" dining and shopping Disney has planned for the gargantuan building formerly known as Virgin Megastore. This is truly amazing, TDO couldn't have screwed this up better if they tried. I almost feel sorry for them. Here's to hoping that Disney will take some initiative, bite the bullet, and start running more of DTD.

Can't say I am disappointed in the least. One word.....

....ESPNZone! :D
Technically, that's like 5 words if you break it down. :)

Would they want 2 ESPN restaurants competing with each other on property? I know there's a precedent for it with Rainforest Cafe, but I'm just throwing the question out there.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

Downtown Disney is Dead.

It'll now FULLY be a hollow shell of nothingness and a foul stench about it.

Enjoy your hotwings and Football masses, while the corpses of everything cool rest at your feet.

generally, any restaurant at WDW does pretty well...

I definitely won't be going to DtD this vacation--not even for Characters in Flight. It's just a ghost town and not worth the large amount of time it takes to get there.

I officially have no reason beyond the AMC theatres to visit anymore, (and I only go to that theatre because it's convenient).

And Travis is correct in every watchmen inspired statement he's made thusfar.
