Until it degnerated into a name calling match I had been reading a thread regarding the Fastpass system and whether the Fastpasses can (or should) be used after the time printed.

I decided to ask Disney what the procedure was because...if it's OK to do, maybe I'll plan my schedule around it on my next trip.

Here's the response I got from Disney:

The Fastpass system is designed to be used only at the times printed on the pass, however, since certain situations may cause guests to miss their Fastpass times, our Cast Members are given the discretion to let people through as they see fit. An example of this would be having to visit First Aid or having the attraction closed for any reason during the Fastpass return time. These situations are rare occurances and generally affect such a small number of guests that it should not add to any wait time in the Fastpass line.

However, we have been informed of numerous incidents by a variety of guests of Cast Members letting several guests through the Fastpass line after their time has passed. Improper use of the Fastpass can create longer lines and less Fastpasses given out to our guests throughout the day. Our belief that it has been occuring on a regular basis has prompted us to ensure that all Cast Members are aware of the proper usage of the Fastpass through a re-training program.

We appreciate your comment and wish to ensure you that we are taking this issue seriously and hope you have a wonderful experience with your Fastpasses on your next visit.

So, I guess I'll just stick with the old tried and true method of being where I'm supposed to be at the time I'm supposed to be there...seems to have worked OK thus far

And I won't, because I'm an evil person using an evil system.

 I'll make sure to be in line ahead of you using my expired fastpass so in case the CM decides to suddenly stop allowing several guests through. I'll let you be the last in line to abuse the evil system. It'll be like a survival of the expired FP fittest; first one there gets to ride:ROFLOL:

Interesting. I think the info on all of the various websites probably helped spread the mis-use of fastpasses. Now I wish they could do something about all of those people who hover around the fastpass entrance 10 minutes before their fastpasses can be used, thus, blocking the fastpass entrance for those of us with valid fastpasses

Well I guess being 6-1 295 has its advantages at some point as obviously sitting on some rides I feel packed in with my knees smushed into the car.I usually will clear space and people will follow me thru a line at sporting events or whatnot as I am a big burly guy and people try not to mess with me.I wont go knocking little ones out of the way or anything but if some schmuck is blocking a line for his own gain and not letting people thru he will be told to move or I will move him.

Until Disney takes a "Zero Tolerance" attitude with expired Fast Passes and refuses ALL latecomers - people will cheat and abuse the system

Just another example of people thinking that the rules do not apply to them. There are rules in all aspects of life.

That seems to be the best possible way to avoid any issues. I'll be sticking to the same method, so there's a few of us out there. ;)

Same here, I think the only time I have ever used a FP outside of the window was when an attraction went down right before my time to ride came up.

Very interesting. It's the first time I've ever seen any official Disney source indicate that the use of expired FP's, except in extenuating circumstances, is a violation of policy.

I've done it before when it was only a few minutes outside the window. We waited in line for Dumbo and it took longer than I thought, so we were about 5 minutes late.

I wouldn't use a fastpass 6 hours after the time window, but I don't see anything wrong with it if it's within a few minutes.

Of course, if someone else uses their fastpass when it's 6 hours expired, that's really none of my business and not something I'm gonna get myself all worked up about.

You're exactly right. Being a bit late is OK. There are some things (like Dumbo) that you just can't control. But I try to be there during the time frame printed on the ticket, and I'm going to continue to assume that other people do as well. It makes it easier that way.

I see nothing wrong with using a fastpass later than your time if its on the same day. Being early is a different story.

If you're 5 minutes late and it was out of your control, that's fine. People shouldn't be using FPs as though they are good all day after their window opens. That defeats the whole purpose of the FP.

Unfortunately, Disney can't really enforce a zero-tolerance policy. Which allows the system to be abused. It is abused so regularily, that a lot of people don't even realize they are abusing the system. Obviously, this only contributes to the problem.

It's one of the many problems inherent in the FP system.

I would often times come back much later in the day outside of my FP time and never heard a thing about it. I didn't even realize I shouldn't have been doing it?

I guess it makes sense that the times are equated to a certain number of guests so I will not be doing this anymore. As it was stated earlier, many people will just do whatever they want. Most responsible adults will follow the rules just because that is what you should do, not because there will be no negative repercussions.

Glad I read this post.
