The Sponsor-less Land and Test Track's lack of Fuel

While walking Epcot before work yesterday, I noticed 2 things in the park that I thought were newsworthy:

  • Nestle's name is no longer appearing on The Land. This would signify why they removed the Jr. Chef program.
  • The Fuel for Thought exhibit at Test Track has closed and is now boarded up. No word yet on what is going there to replace it.

Very interesting thanks for the update. I don't think it will be hard for the Land to get a new sponsor but you would think that w/ the high gas prices Fuel for Thought would be perfect for right now.

This is just wild speculation but there has been quite a bit of bad press concerning corn based fuels as of late. I know GM is still pushing E85 but Disney might want something a bit less controversial. There is also the fact that this display was bypassed more than the film in Norway. Disney might be putting something in that will generate a bit more foot traffic.

I'm placing bets for 'Cars' tie-in exhibit.

True...Considdering your fuel mileage is actually worst with Ethanol.
There is that along with the cost to produce issues, corn prices, land usage etc. I can see E85 putting a small dent in our oil dependency but it is not the end all be all solution to it.

If they did it tastefully and in a way that satisfies those Epcot ideals (Entertain, Inform and Inspire), I have no problem with characters. "Cars" in Test Track can work so long as it's teaching something along with being entertaining.

Characters around Epcot can work very well, within reason of course. "Cars" in Test Track would make some sense, just like Nemo in The Seas makes sense. (That pavilion has experiened a reincarnation of sorts, not a funeral and burial.) Chicken Little in the Universe of Energy would not be a good match (just a random example). I don't see why characters--Pixar included--are always a bad no matter what the possibilities for or execution of the attraction is.

They should put in the post show area of Test Track what they originally had where you drove a virtual car with special features (like Night Vision), but just an updated version.

TT does not need any help of a movie tie-in. TT continually has the second longest wait times in Epcot which means it does not need any help.

So, I guess this means that The Land sign presented by Nestle located at the entrance has changed along with the automated speil on LWtL?

well, you beat me to it. i was going to say that it takes gas, and a lot of it, to produce Ethanol. from the fertalizing, the harvesting, the conversion and the distribution.

when we can run our cars on our own trash (see doc brown and the Mr. Fusion) ill be impressed and have hope for the future in our 11th hour.

I'll be happy when my monthly gasoline bill is less than my car payment again.

Your car payment is too low? Because the gas prices are here to stay, looks like.
Not by a long shot. Thank god it goes away in October.

I fear you are correct about gas prices though. Quite honestly it will shock me if it ever goes down to less than $3 a gallon again.

We can only hope. You're absolutely right about it being bypassed more than the film in Norway :)ROFLOL:)-- that I will stop in occasionally to rest my feet and catch some shade. I don't remember the last time I stopped to look around the exhibits at the end of Test Track though.

Die? Why, Nemo resurrected a fading pavilion stripped of its original charm and attractions. I can near-guarantee you that a non-character TLS wouldn't have got as near a big budget, nor such big lines.

I was at a talk with some WDI folk at the Disney studios in burbank for the 25th of Epcot and they flat out said that if not for Nemo TLS (the living seas) would have been closed! It had less foot traffic then the Wonders of Life did when it closed and with it no longer being the "worlds largest aquarium" it had no draw and no thrill. Once they put in Turtle Talk they saw the draw of Nemo to everyone and started to put together what we know as The Seas with Nemo and Friends now!

While I understand people not liking the Disneyfacation of Epcot, if you look at the history of Epcot dating back to 1982 more people have wanted characters in the park then didn't. One of the things the WDI people said was they didn't want to tell the story of Nemo in the Seas, they wanted to tell the story of the Seas with Nemo in it. I was one of the first guests on The Seas w/Nemo and Friends and I have to say if not for that addition, I would not have gone in there more then once every year or so that I have done since they removed the Sea cabs and all of that.

Finally! I always thought that it's very hypocritical of Nestle to sponsor anything in the land given that they are such an unethical company.
