Alright Horizons buffs, I've got a question...

Hi All!

I was watching a youtube video of Horizons last night that was originally shot in 1984. In 1984 I was but a wee Lil Spark (only 1 year old :o) so my earliest recollection of Horizons was around 1987ish. I actually had the narration and such memorized by age 7, but while I was watching the 1984 video I realized that some of the narration was different.

For instance, in the Birthday Party scene the couple only say, "Oh, almost time for the party?" and they don't sing 'Happy Birthday' to Davey, but to what appears to actually be a girl!

So I was just wondering if anyone has any details for me about when the narration was changed, if any scenes or AA's were changed along with it, or other examples of changed dialogue.

"If we can dream it, we really can do it..."

Wotcha!

So far as I know, no AAs were changed - but the dialogue did quite a bit.

I`ve several recordings where the dialogue in Urban Habitat is very different to what we knew (same storyline but different words - eg instead of "Like Music? My wife here has a good ear for music" it`s "Everyones a critic nowerdays. My wife likes it though" and the Omnimax entry speil is "It takes work. Lots of work. But the truth is..." or how about in the Desert Farm the robotic harvesters actually speaking back!!?

These were early recordings, but they were run in the attraction. Best of all is a holdover from the original plot - I believe it may be in the vid you`re refering to - where "Mission Control" asks you to look at the lighted pannels in front of you! Can you link the youtube vid? :D

There's the link Martin.

I knew you'd know something about it! I could hear a few big differences in the narration. Do we know when this change happened? Does it look like a girl in the birthday scene to you too?

And the robotic harvesters spoke back!?

Yep - imagine the Harvesters speaking but with a metallic tone. No beeps!

The best I can aim for about the changes is 1984-1988. I`ve a Feb `88 ridethru with the dialogue as we knew it. Looking closer at the clips I used in my Ultimate Tribute, the kids birthday hat dissappeared quite often too - replaced by a different one too. I have to say, with several angles of video, Davey does look male:

Like around, "The robots are even giving off storm warnings too"...?

Thanks for the estimation Martin. I know the narration by heart, but never realized I knew version 2.0 of Horizons! I've tried registering and downloading your Ultimate Tribute, but I guess I've not quite figured out how to do it yet. :o

Thank you again! You are an EPCOT Center god, Sir!

Well, the 1964 GM Futurama (II) is the incarnation that most resembles the EPCOT Horizions we all know and love. It featured depictions of futuristic places to live and work. Plus the general style of the miniatures most closely resembled Horizons 83.

The 1939 Highways and Horizons (original Futurama) was more closely akin to Walt's vision for the city of EPCOT, focusing especially on the future of transportation... including pedestrian areas free of vehicle traffic, vehicle traffic under the main pedestrian area, etc.

Hokay Jackie, while I have you pulled into an EPCOT Center thread...

Let me tell you how cool it was to see the picture of Jim Mac Phee that you took while on the history walk of the C25 dvd. :o It's like I'm watching/living history being made.
