Effective April 6, 2008, prices for stroller rentals skyrocket.

A single will rent for $15/day ($13/day with multi-day rental discount), up from $10 ($8 with discount).

A double will rent for ... and no, this isn't a typo ... $31/day ($27 with multi-day rental discount), up from $18 ($16 with discount).

woohoo! I'm actually glad as someone who doesn't have need for a stroller, there just seemed to be a ton of them all over the parks making getting around very difficult (and that's all I did for 4 months working at the parks)...

maybe this will convince people who don't really need strollers not to rent them.

People will still rent the strollers...

But hopefully fewer will. There were not nearly as many strollers in the parks in prior years - people were just getting them because they were convenient.

Disney isn't even gouging people at that price. Anyone can buy an umbrella stroller for the same price of the old rentals - and it's not like Disney wont let you bring one in.

True..

 we agree..;)

The one they sell at the resorts is $43 and very nice if I may add..and even if you fly in and buy it for your trip and get rid of it you are still saving money.

So it makes sense if you are worried about money to buy one..even if you need a double and buy two..you save money.

Crazy!

Maybe this will deter parents from renting a stroller for their much too old child.

I.... wouldn't count on it.

Peanuts in the grand scheme of how much it costs to go to WDW. If still want to rent, they will. Or they will buy and bring their own (as was stated) and everybody will still have to be annoyed over the "too old" children :ROFLOL:

This just means more people dragging their strollers back and forth on resort busses which is definitely more of a pain than strollers in the parks

Wow.... that is a huge increase!
I bet some unsuspecting parents will be surprised at those prices!

For us, we will continue to bring our own stroller for our children,
at least until they are 12 or so.... (just kidding)

And I agree, that this will invariably result with more strollers on the buses......

If this means fewer strollers, I'm all for it! People use those things like battering rams to get through a crowd. I've been hit several times.

wow no ones outraged at this! amazing, perhaps disney should take note and really sort out how many they rent out in a day, its obvious a touchy subject but there are too many of them, just looking at posts of older pictures and back in the 80, s and theres hardly any to be seen, and you can moce and walk without havong your shins broken.
i say this isnt far enough thou ,put up childs admission to double. and have adult only weeks! now ive done it!

Holy crap, that is a huge increase! :hurl:

Now I'm extra glad we bought the (very compact and not battering-ram style) side by side double stroller for the kids before our last trip. At 4 and 2 years old, mine will probably need one for a few more trips. We'll be taking our own down, thanks!

Exactly

I'm already looking for one that would be good for what will be our six month old next spring break

I want one umbrella-ish that can recline, does such a thing exist?

Yes, we had a Maclaren Triumph. Very lightweight, reclines, easy to steer. Also has a shoulder strap which is very convenient when boarding buses. The only thing is they are pricey. I shopped around a lot before I bought ours and got a good deal on a new one on Ebay.

This is the exact one we had. They are on Ebay for $89.99 plus $28 for shipping.

Maybe to help pay for new ones and repairs to old ones that have to be made sooner than before because of the strollers being used to cart big kids instead of the under 4 generation like they used to be used in the past? Is there an increase in wheel chair rentals, too? When my friend and I go she needs the motorized one because she can't walk without her cane. If she tries walking in the parks she gets knocked off her feet sometimes.

I look forward to seeing all school age kids(who aren't handicapped of course) walking instead of riding in strollers. It is about time parents let kids grow up and walk if they can. My guys would have been embarrassed to death to be in a stroller past 4 in the parks. We adjusted our pace to their speed. We rested when they needed to rest, and probably saw more things through their eyes because we weren't pushing them to the next ride at the speed of light My theory has always been at work you rush to finish projects on time, but when on vacation you take the time to enjoy. What you see this trip does not have to be everything offered. Enjoy what you do do and don't worry about what you don't get to see or do. JMHO

That's not a bad price to me. I don't intend to buy a "big" stroller, this would be THE stroller I'd use at all times, WDW or home.

We had a "big" stroller for the previous kids, and after I realized how little I really needed it and what a giant pain in the hiney it was, I don't think I am going to deal with that again. I want something I can pop together and into the back of the car within a minute or so
