First off I want to give a warning that this may get long, I never write or talk for too long but this subject just seems to make me take forever. Second, the trip started off on a bad foot so there will be some complaining but I promise it's not the entire post of complaints. Well, I'll start.
I'll have to start with some background work and planning before we left. We were going only because I was planning on proposing so we were to fly there on friday morning and return late monday night. It's a short trip, but I wanted a special moment when I was to propose. I had flight tickets paid for and seats picked so that was covered. I also had a rental car at the ready. I called earlier and used a code I found online for Thrifty car rental. Now I am under 25 so I was expecting this fee they seem to add. But when I asked for the total and explained I was under 25 they said with the code there is no where to enter it so my total was what they said without it. Ok, car check, plane check, hotel was ordered online at a great rate and I got to choose my room type, smoking preference etc so check. I had Pirate and Princess Party tickets in hand because we were not going to pay for the whole day on Friday if it's going to take us a while to get from the airport and otherwise ready to go and it provided a lower price and low crowds, check.
The day of departure was upon us and I was all set. Had everything ready to go. My only fear was that I was going to get a bag check and have her see the ring so I put it in the box, in the cardboard box it was in, in a folded pair of socks. Luckily, I got through just fine and actually really quickly as there wasn't alot of people there. During the flight we were fine, not too bumpy, seats towards the front so it was fairly quiet, all was good. I could tell she was nervous since she has never flown, but she would never admit it. I just kept asking how she was doing and she said she was fine, all turned out good.
When we arrived we went out to catch the bus to the car rental. That's were the trouble started. When I got to the rental location they told me there was no way I could get my car without paying for the fee that they told me I wouldn't be charged. I am usually someone that takes a while to lose it but with all my plans being fooled with I just went crazy. And all I got was "Oh well we have to charge it and there's no where else that will be cheaper so do you want it or not?". Unfortunately it was true so I got the car but I wanted to leave just to prove the point.
Next we went to check into the hotel. We went in at 2 o'clock and I figured there was a good chance the room wouldn't be ready but if it was I wanted to drop off my bags. We went in and was greeted. We gave our names and they confirmed our room type, smoking preference, etc. Then they told us that the room wasn't ready and to come back in about an hour. Well we took this time to go to wilderness lodge and POFQ to look around since we haven't been there before. We caught some food and came back at 4. We went to check in an hour after they said the room would be ready. But now we check in and they say that there are no rooms available. I told them that we came in earlier and they just say " Well I guess they forgot to block your room out and we gave it away. I can get you some other room" Again I went nuts. :fork: My plans are falling apart here and I'm just losing it at every turn. They said if we wanted we could come back tomorrow at noon and see if there was another room to move to. Who goes on vacation to a hotel just outside the main gate and is available to come back at noon? Then they suggested we pack our stuff up and they move it. With the ring in there, I think not. So we got this room we didnt want for the entire time. I also called the website we booked through that promised to fix mistakes, and all I got was the "Oh well" speech. Lesson learned: Always book on property.
Now we just decided to try to get away and go to the P&P party for the night. This was great. We weren't super hyped about the parade or fireworks but just wanted to get in at a lower price for the time we were going to spend there anyways. We saw the parade and it was good, not extrodinary but good. We really enjoyed the fact that it was nighttime, everyone seemed to be having fun, and we could every ride we usually skip because the lines are long. We even did some rides like Haunted Mansion and Peter Pan multiple times. They even said riders could ride again on Thunder Mountain if there was no one in their row to get on. And there were only two rows filling. It was the best decision of the trip because we did a majority of what we wanted to hit right then.
The next day we strolled into the Magic Kingdom again knowing that we covered alot the night before and could take our time not needing to rush to feel that you're getting your money's worth. We walked in and went to the bakery to get breakfast and watch the crowds come in. It was really enjoyable but the real point was that I just took out cash from the ATM and I needed to make sure we had some coins for the proposal. After we ate we started to make our usual rotation when I said "Let's go this way and look around". I led her down the path to the wishing well where I stopped. I took her to the edge of the well, there was no one around. It felt like a real secluded spot like we were the only ones in the park. I pulled out two coins and said that we should make a wish. I stood behind her so that our hands were right next to each other as we made our wishes. After that I leaned in and said "You know, we really are in a place where dreams come true, and today I'm wishing you can make my dream come true" This is where I dropped to my knee and said "Will you marry me?". She answered "Of course" and I got up to put the ring on her finger. Right as I was putting it on her finger (and shaking like crazy) another guest came by that had a huge camera around his neck. He asked us if we just got engaged and took our picture and wrote down my email address. I was so surprised that a random stranger would do that for us as we had no other way of getting well pictures, I was sooo grateful.
After making all the calls and stopping her giggling we leisurely walked around the park and hit rides as we felt the urge. This was were the P&P Party paid off. We just took our time since we hit most of it before, it was so relaxing. I picked up a pin at a cart with married mickey and minnie in a ring. That night we had dinner at CRT (of which she didn't know beforehand and was wondering why I said to dress nicely for pictures). It was a great dinner and we could see out the window unobstructed over fantasyland. We had the reservation at the perfect time because we got out as Spectromagic's first time was going by. We rode Peter Pan one more time and went to the hub to pick a viewing spot for Wishes. After that we went to main street to see Spectromagic's second time. After all was done we reluctantly walked as slow as possible to the gate.
The next day we drove to Cocoa Beach and walked the beach, relaxed and had a bite at the marina. It was a great relaxation time to just enjoy our time. That night we didn't want to call it over at 10 so we went to the boardwalk and again just slowly walked around.
For the day we were leaving we went around Downtown Disney to spend some time before the flight in a Disney environment. We got a mickey head shaped christmas ornament with engaged and the date on the main orb and our names on the ear orbs. It should be arriving any time now.
Our flight back was great except for the fact that we were leaving the world. When we got back my parents picked us up and took us to their house for hors dourves and champagne.
I think it was just what we wanted. I wanted something romantic and memorable and she didn't like too much attention. I think we managed that. I hoping there will be many more times that we can go back and make another wish in the well and remember our trip.
