A Theory on Space Mountain's Rumors of Refurbishment.

Been looking over some wikipedia information and over some post on the forum regarding Space Mountain's inevitable refurbishment. From what I understand, Space Mountain has not had a sponsor for over 3 years now, plus there is a growing amount of rumors of when the refurbishment will occur, with mostly centering around this summer.

With the last two sponsors, RCA, and FedEx, we have seen minor refurbishments, including paint jobs, parts of the building come and gone, and others. From what I can tell, its only after when a sponsor signs on to a attraction that the attraction goes under some type of refurbishment.

So I guess my question is... Is Disney waiting for a sponsor to sign on to Space Mountain to start their Major Refurbishment? Because really, in order to do anything...
you need a lot of green to do it.:drevil:

If or If not, when do you think when the Refurbishment will be?

I think it's just a matter of getting it into the yearly budget.

It would seem that, every year, each area/department must submit proposed items for the upcoming budget. Those with the highest priority, based on some criteria, get approved.

That's the way most businesses work.

The refurbishment seems to be a matter of "when", not "if" at this point, but I'm sure a new sponsor could bring "when" closer to "now".

True. Otherwise I would think it would be a fairly straightforward CapEx situation... line up all the proposed capital expenditures and see what's needed/funded.

Disney is not waiting for a sponsor for Space Mountain.
Refurbing Space Mountain takes more than meets the eye...

BTW Wikipadia sucks! (if I wanted to I'd change the whole article concerning Space Mountain).

Wikipedia is decent for information about the attractions, but I wouldn't trust any rumors on there. Rumors aren't supposed to be on Wikipedia in the first place.

Excuse me, but Wikipedia is just so - so...
One just can't take things for granted just because it's on Wikipedia... That what I've been trying to say...

It's made for the general public and made by the general public.

I can agree with you there. Anything on Wikipedia should definitely be taken at face value and not as fact.

I agree!

I already pointed out a few things on their site that is wrong already.

Am I wrong or don't sponsors only help pay for the daily operations of an attraction? I always thought this and Disney puts up their own money to update, referb and build an attraction. If this is the case then it wouldn't matter who sponsors SM if it gets a rehab.

But if it's as good of a refurb as DL's was, it'll be welllllllll worth it.
I have to agree. DL's Space Mountain is my favorite Disney ride in any park. The soundtrack adds a lot to the excitement of the ride, and it's a much smoother (but still thrilling) experience that doesn't bother my back.

During my next trip in March, I can't imagine downgrading to MK's Space Mountain again...but I will. I still like it. It is just in pitiful condition. As the world's first Space Mountain, you'd think Disney would renovate just because of its age. I guess not.

Wikipedia :fork::fork::fork:

My students don't understand why I hate it so much. I tell them any idiot sitting in the basement munching Cheetos can put anything on there they want. When we do research papers I point blank tell them if they use Wikipedia, the paper is an automatic "F" because they have been given countless warnings about the danger of invalid sources. Wikipedia is not a reliable source for anything.

**Thread highjack completed. Resume the conversation.***

Back on topic...

In 2006 we rode Space Mountain and literally felt the car jump the tracks. That was scary. It needs some TLC.

Thus, I said it was a "Theory". I can't be right all the time, besides like I said, the refurbishment will happen sooner or later.

As for the Wikipedia business, usually its usually close to up to date stuff. Why do you think we are allow to edit the article at our will? So that we can add or take out information needed. I can understand that it has it's facts somewhat out of line, but you must remember this is to best of knowledge of a collection of people.

If you think you can add something to the Space Mountain Article, why don't you go ahead and do it. I can't stopping you. :D

Michael Scott: Wikipedia is the best thing ever. Anyone in the world can write anything they want about any subject. So you know you are getting the best possible information.
