WDW Permits

Love them or hate them the construction permits are a great undeniable source of information of what is on the horizon for WDW. To make things a little easier on everyone here at WDWMagic I have decided to create one thread to cover the plethora of construction permits that WDW files on a daily basis. I will be searching the various pubic record sources and posting my findings on a daily basis. 2/21/2008

One suggestion: I know you don't want to editorialize, but a good thing to do would be to give a brief description of what you think each thing actually is. For example 'Interactive Utility Package' doesn't mean a lot to most people.

In situation where I can at least reasonably explain what is going on I will. Unfortunately in that particular example "Interactive utility package" doesn't mean much to me either. I suspect it is for either the NDS interactive map or for the Kim Possible game that Disney is/was testing but it just as well might be for Pal Mickey or something entirely different. The point is I do not want to guess and misinform someone. I am trying to be very Joe Friday in this thread..."Just the facts".

Hopefully this thread will help to shed light on some of the more interesting permits as the official descriptions of the scope of work are often quite vague.

One quick note... "demolition," as a construction term, does not always mean "oh noes, theyre tearing down teh EPCOT Centar!!!!111elevenone"

"Demolition" can be something as simple as tearing down a single wall in an area. You need more info before you can presume it's all wrecking balls and front-end loaders.

Doesn't apply to anything already posted... just noting for future instances.

I intend on doing just that. Providing of course a scope of work is spelled out in the permit.

The same thing holds true with the word "failure" in engineering. Most people have an image of that I-35W bridge collapse in Mississippi when they hear the word failure. In the engineering world failure means "deflecting past code limits" 99% of the time.

Trex is a partially synthetic decking material. It requires no sanding or staining, it will not rot or splinter. It is considerably more expensive than wood but it will last almost indefinitely and still look brand new.

Good idea Yoda. I do check the site each day for something interesting. Yesterday, the only one filed happened to be interesting!

I'm still sticking with the KP game for the utility package. After all, the NDS system has yet to be fully implemented in the MK... unless they don't like the idea of having portable GPS systems in 1920s Missouri and would rather have it in EPCOT. :lookaroun

As a side note, isn't it interesting that most permits on the site are for resorts, backstage areas, water parks, and EPCOT? Maybe once or twice a week do I see permits for any of the other parks.
