Photo TR: Maverick (Cedar Point) 6/2

Well, as promised and by semi-popular demand, I took as many shots of Cedar Point's 17th and newest roller coaster in action. (And, sure, I might have ridden it myself!)

By the way, Magnum has been up and running after their little incident a couple of weekends ago. Only one train is out for repairs at the moment.

Magnum running two trains with minimal wait: good! Waiting a half-hour to run to Maverick and having to watch Joe Cool/resort guests go in instead: bad!



omg omg omg



So, did I enjoy it? Well, first ride, front seat in under 15 minutes, combined with the actual ride itself...



...You tell me. =)



Let me tell you, you can really feel the fact that it's 95 degrees!



(That's in both angle and temperature... it was a scorcher last Saturday!)

Besides the airtime, the overbanks were my favourite elements. (FYI, if you keep your head back, you'll be fine in terms of a smoother ride.)





You might think it's impossible for a coaster train to just "sneak up" on you... but that aptly describes every time the trains launch from the tunnel. Eerily silent.



While I didn't notice these on the ride, I did get a bit wet from the random canyon fire hose thing.

So, just to qualify this as a semi-full CP post, I took ONLY A FEW other pictures. Rest assured there's more down the page!



So they test both trains before opening, then run only one run one side on the same crowded Saturday? Weird.



*yawn*... (That's for the "signature shot", not the ride itself.)



The Johnny Rockettes don't look quite as enthusiastic as they did in the brochure...



Gotta have SOME Canadian content!



Now back to your regularly scheduled Maverick content, since clearly you all skipped down the page to begin with.



a) I really can't see taking the (now-absent) heartline roll at that speed!

b) OMG! That lady has 4 arms!!!



The trains are up the hill in the blink of an eye... really, I counted 9 seconds!



You actually get airtime off these inversions! Insane!

Best part of the ride!



FYI, I took most of these photos from the exit ramp of the ride. A security guard escorted me up the ramp so I didn't make all the ride-ops mad. Needless to say, I got some choice looks from other guests who thought I did something horrible. :lol:



"WHOAAAA..."



The fly-bys were done extremely well, and really add to the experience.







Hairtime!

Even though they "stacked" the trains, the crew was on their A-game. Trains sat out there for no longer than about a minute, which is great, considering there's 6 trains on the circuit!



Well, I'm just glad I ran here first! This is around 3:00.

(This is Cedar Point's first bonafide attempt at themeing, and it's really, REALLY well done.)



"Duuuuuuude... what just happened?!"

At this point (maybe 5:00), the 40% chance severe thunderstorms started rolling in... and when they roll off the lake, they roll in HARD!



A lot of people kept screaming "TORNADO!", though the winds did pick up really quickly.



I didn't get a shot of the horde heading for the main entrance, but I can only compare it to a wider-midway version of the Magic Kingdom, post-Wishes.



...But even with God's fury approaching, I still made time to stop and smell the roses in a sense. =)



Luckily, us smart people had reservations at Game Day Grille!



That about sums up the apocalyptic storms! We even had to get the manager to get some towels; the bottom ledge of the window was leaking steadily.



Golfing may prove to be a bit more challenging than usual this evening...

So would you say the Maverick was intense? Or just really fast and fun?

It was both.... I think I was having too much fun to notice the intensity. :lol: If you keep your head back and don't try to put your arms up, you'll be fine.

Honestly? Maverick is less intense, and a heckuva lot more fun. :wave:
