Trip Report 5/19

Well, I could not wait until December so I got a crazy thought and gathered the family for a "quick" 580+ mile road trip to WDW. :hammer: I called WDW and they had nothing available for the weekend except a $650 a night suite at Yacht & Beach Club. Not happening, so found something cheap at the Grosvenor. I am thinking it cannot be that bad. Well, we arrived at 6 am after driving all night. We got to our room which was just so in need of a refurb and a deep cleaning. After composing myself to get the energy to go to the Flower & Garden Fest at Epcot (the rest of the family slept the whole way thank goodness), we headed to Epcot. The crowds were so not bad like I expected. The weather was cool and breezy. Lines were also short. The flowers did not seem as numerous as in years past. All the table-service restaurants were booked ALL day, so we grabbed fish n chips at UK. I was so wanting to eat at San Angel or Rose & Crown. The day was really good at Epcot, aside from that.

Getting back to the Grosvenor is a different story. There were teenagers running rampant all over the hotel property. Parties in every room, beer cans and trash flying off balconies as we approached our room. At our room, it was like arriving at a party outside our door. Tons of underage drunks, screaming, smoking, etc. This party went on outside our door until 2 am which was after 3 phone calls to security. I hated to be the "party pooping adult", but I lost all senses when a skateboarder at 2 am lost his board as he passed our room and it crashed into the window almost breaking it. Needless to say, if anyone was sleeping in our end of the hotel at this time...they were not when I went off on all the disrespectful little drunks outside. Security came, the culprits were kicked out of the hotel. Security said they were being outnumbered to control the delinquents of which they had caught several in "compromising" activities in the pool area and in the bushes.

I finally fell asleep about 4 then drove back so that I could get everything ready for work the next day. I love WDW and love the fact that I got to go to the Flower & Garden Festival again. I, however, will NEVER step foot at the Grosvenor again. We always stay on property at a WDW resort, so all this did was confirm it for me in the future that if there are no rooms at a Disney owned hotel, I just will not go. I have a friend who is a castmember that we told what we did and she said "I cannot believe you made it out of the Grosvenor alive". I had no idea it would be that bad of a property.

I cannot wait until December to be back at the great, beautiful, trusty Wilderness Lodge.:xmas:

What a shame that your stay was ruined by the hotel - at least you enjoyed WDW and you got to live another day to return to a "proper" resort in December

While I have never had as bad of an experience as you did that occasional last minute trip that lands me on HTB really makes me appreciate Disney resorts and Disney service.
