American Express is no more

As of January 1st, American Express is no longer a sponser for Disney. No more white glove treatment:(

A cast member at the Polynesian resort told us this news the other day. When we checked in at the resort (on december 23rd) we recieved two american express lanyards with pins because we used that card to pay. On Jan. 1st my mother went back to see if she could get two more for me and my sister the cast member told us that american express picked up all of the lanyards and any signs they had in the parks promoting the white glove treatment.

If anyone could verify this and/or tell me why this happened, please let me know. I'm curious. Thanks

I'm thinking it has to do with the new Disney Visa card (that I haven't heard much about recently).

No need to have 2 "official" Disney credit cards.

It's HarmonioUS, NOT HarmoniYOU.
Bank One / Visa has teamed up with Disney and there will be a new card out very soon... were you can earn Disney Rewards (points). Sooo.. They Dropped Amex as a result of this new card coming out in the spring... this is also why the Disney Club Is going away. The Disney Credit card will vanish as well.

Thanks..I did hear of a new Disney card but I wasn't sure if it was a rumor or the real thing. I miss the lanyard and pins....that was free pins for trading!

Anyone else see the commercial comming?

"When you go to Walt Disney World you better take your Visa Card because they don't take American Express."

Actually I am sure they will take it...they just don't prefer it.

Its really pretty simple...the contract that Disney had with American Express simply ran out, and they decided to go with Visa. Since Disney already had a credit card of their own, they needed a company that they could merge with, and I do believe its much more flexible...

American Express + Disney = Class Act

I will miss the partnership between American Express and Disney. When I was a child, I remember the two things I wanted when I became an adult: an American Express card, and the ability to use it to go to Disneyland.

"Only rich people have an American Express card, and only rich people can afford to go to Disneyland.", I thought to myself.

So, when I was able to get both of my childhood wishes (although replace "Disneyland" with "Walt Disney World"), I felt I had "arrived", in a weird, nostalgic way. It's hard to explain the feeling.

I have always thought the alliance between AMEX/Disney had style. From the sponsorship of the "American Adventure" to the "White Glove Treatment" program, their involvement with each other seemed to say, "High Quality". Even the advertisement campaigns and promotions had style, and a sense of elegance.

Disney pushing a Visa card now? How common. Just another sign of lower standards in all things Disney, in my opinion.

I don't want to come across as a snob, because it is a struggle for me-as well as so many other people-to get along financially, now more than ever. But still...another Disney institution of many years bites the dust.

:( Say it isn't sooo!!! :lookaroun :(

:fork: I agree with markP8 It just will not be the same-- looses a lot of the class/style, without the Amex-

Sorry, but the White Glove treatment has been a part of WDW for me all these years--

I will miss it!!!! The goodies, the little book with the info, etc. :( :lookaroun

The presence of BankOne is already in WDW...kinda of. The ATMs are all now BankOne instead of SunTrust. Personally I'm not happy since I have to pay 2 bucks to get money out now (My bank is SunTrust).

Are the Vista FCU ATMs still there?
