Not Exactly Disneyland, But Close Enough

Today I was going through with my daily "ritual" of sorts by searching for news through various different sources, and while doing so I just so happened to come across something that was... well... very interesting, to say the least. Shortly thereafter, I tried searching these forums in an attempt to see if this might have been discussed previously, although I did not come up with any results.

Anyways, to get to the story, it seems as if a select few people from China have recently stumbled upon a newly opened theme park which appears to be rather familiar to another park which we all know and love. This park, named "Shijngshan Amusement Park," is self-proclaimed to have absolutely nothing to do with Disney whatsoever... although mere views of these photographs would seemingly prove otherwise. The article on this subject in it's entirely can be seen here, and a sample of pictures taken within the place itself can be seen below.

Hmmmmm.... where have I seen this castle before?

An "original Chinese duck character" with one of the Beijing Olympics mascots

The aforementioned "original Chinese duck character" and, as stated by operators of the park, a "cat with very large ears" that is absolutely not a mouse

Can't Disney sue the pants off of them for this? Or are the laws for that sort of thing different in Japan? What a shameless Disney ripoff.

Someone already posted this...
Well, like I said, I really tried my best to see if this had been posted before and the only topics similar to this were based on Nara Dreamland and Europa Park. Maybe I simply missed the thread, and if that is in fact the case then I truly do apologize for re-posting this.

As for primetime's question, I'm not to knowledgeable when it comes to dealing with the legalities of things such as this... but I would imagine that there has to be some sort of extent as to how far these replications can truly go. I am aware that there are many "fake" or "bootleg" Disney items sold throughout the world, but this is an entire theme park apparently based solely upon the likenesses of their characters and whatnot.

I actually think it's kind of sweet...:lookaroun . Look at the picture with the Duck and the mascot...see how happy the people are? Mind you , I'm not advocating stealing from Disney (and that Duck looks really familiar...) it's just kind of neat to see the joy this kind of thing can bring.

Very interesting topic. Thanks!

People just don't see this as being wrong though. It's a cultural thing. It annoys me because Disney's product is so much better but people will think it's the same.

Here in the US we have a hard time convincing people that WDW isn't some dumb amusement park. *sigh*

Oh - I can't read chinese, anyone know what's inside the SSE-lookin ball thingy? I know germany's stupid park has a roller coaster. I wonder what's in this one.

Even though I can't understand what they are saying, I am horrified at the fact that this place would allow their employees to TAKE OFF THE CHARACTER HEADS IN FRONT OF GUESTS! I know its not Disney, but give me a break :fork:

I was rolling on the floor with laughter when I saw the one characters head fall off and roll on the ground.
