This was a long time coming. I think Universal is now realizing what originally made Disney successful. Don't cut corners, really try to wow your guests. Unfortunately this is proving to be more and more difficult, I'm not much for simulators, but I will see this when it opens, and I have high expectations because the idea has been in development for so long.

As for Harry Potter, this too should be an amazing addition, both additions should hopefully put pressure on Disney, hopefully leading to an era of huge theme park investments from both companies.

That is great news! I've always been a fan of The Simpsons and knowing that they would never fit into a Disney park, I'm glad they went to Universal for the development of a theme park attraction. While it may have been a bit more exciting if it wasn't simply a changover of the film from BTTF, I imagine it will be a lot of fun and more relevant to today's audience than BTTF was. As long as they tone the movements of the simulators down like is stated in the Orlando Sentinel so it isn't so jerky and rough, I'm all for it. Maybe we will even see completely new simulators and/or new projection equipment given the downtime is a full year.

I imagine a Potter announcement, assuming rumors are true, is still off a little bit. That will undoubtedly overshadow this announcement and plans. Not to mention Disney better be ready to counteract it with something big of their own when it is ready to open in a few years from now.

And this will guarantee a summer 2008 visit since my son is a huge Simpsons fan. :D He was sad to hear about BTTF, but this will put a grin on his face.

I have pictures with Simpsons characters from (I think) King's Island. This announcement is alright, I mean 'The Simpsons' is well-know, but when I was growing up it was never seen as a show for kids. I used to like 'The Simpsons,' but now I prefer 'Family Guy.'

As far as 'Harry Potter' goes, I could care less. I like the 'Lost Continent' and I would hate to see it go, but HP is globally successful so there ya go!

Dude who remembers Fast and the Furious?

Silly James :lookaroun

The Simpsons are at least more deserving seeing as how they're a part of pop culture

Just because F&F isn't Jurassic Park, it doesn't mean it wouldn't be a great attraction. If the ride is great, people will enjoy it regardless of what movie title is on the side outside.

You're right, I was messing with my buddy James because he knows I love to mess with him

:lookaroun

It doesn't make a difference to me, I haven't been to USO in 10 years, and frankly the only thing making me want to go back is ROTM

I just hope they put in a Moe's Bar to help the theming. That will only make it 100% awesome!

Nothing like hitting Moe's for a few drinks and then heading to Krustyland!

F&F would make a KICK@$$ attraction, thank ya very much

The Simpsons are lame - a Family Guy attraction would've been a much better idea. :lookaroun

If they want to do this right then BTTF The Store must become a Kwik-E-Mart and the IF&FF needs to be turned into Moe's Tavern and Krusty Burger.

I hate to run off topic a bit here, but Family Guy is just a cheap Simpsons impersonation. Tons of jokes that Family Guy has used were done by the Simpsons a decade earlier. Family Guy isn't even funny anymore. At least it took the Simpsons 15 years to stink.

Family Guy - tries so hard for a joke - and uses that as plot-devices, rather than actually thinking about a concrete plot.

Simpsons - a true satire toward family values, our own society, and the pop culture we seem to be surrounded with.

As for the news at hand, not entirely sure if I am happy or not. Perhaps, I feel the same thing I felt when I heard Shrek was replacing the far more superior Hitchcock attraction.

I understand WHY they had to replace BTTF. It's outdated. I understand WHY Simpsons is replacing it. It has a huge following. It makes sense. But what I can't figure out – they have LOTS OF ROOM between attractions. They have a vacant stage that's been collecting dust for the past six+ years. And for argument sake, they have LOTS OF LAND to build a couple of small theme parks (which may be planned long term). I say, ________ that. Expand the parks you have now. Don't be like Disney with their dozens of parks -try to be your own identity – which is what made BTTF and Hitchcock unique – they were part of the Universal history. Remember, quality over quantity!

Along with Mel's Drive in and Monster Café are monumental pieces of the park. I hope to god Universal does not tear them down.

I am glad they got Simpsons. I dig the Simpsons. And could see an insane simulation ride out of it. And while it's still better than Fast and the Furious (I am so glad they didn't make an attraction park ride out of that, cool concept, maybe - but I would do something that would stay LONG TERM, not SHORT TERM). BUT, I would have preferred Peter Jackson's King Kong, Jurassic Park, or even War of the World's (since it's near MIB ride, fits the alien theme, and it would be INTENSE). Why venture in other studio's greats, when you have potential greats of your own?

I went to Universal yesterday, and after observing everything - I am glad I am working at Disney instead. I love both parks equally as much (very knowledgeable about both studios, from a film buff's perceptive), but Disney seems to be more fun for employment. Still have a deep fond love for Universal...and have no shame saying otherwise.

Pumbas Nakasak

Heading for the great escape.
Had the e-mail from Universal this morning. A Spring opening next year, good to see attractions being built in a sensible amount of time, rather than 4 years.

Like the Simpsons but not sure the ride idea works, couldnt give a fig about Barry Spotter, dislike him almost as much as Tolkeins Hobittzzzzzzz.
