Hi everyone, new to the site but hoping to be around to share my Disney experiences for years to come!
Ok heres my question- Planning on heading to Disney World some time between August 12 and the 24th for 4 days 3 nights. This trip will include 8 adults and 4 kids ages 4, 3 1/2, 1 and 11 months old. This is special occasion because we will be celebrating my parents 40 anniversary. my mother's 1st choice would be to stay at the Grand Floridain. I am a bit nervous because I am not to sure if it will be a really good fit for the kids compared to the other resorts. Growing up in the 80's We always stayed at the Contemporary (lots of fun!). My sister's Honeymoon was spent at the Beach Club. I also like the location of the Beach Club (there seems to be a lot to do in that area). I would like keep in the area of Magic Kingdom Resorts or Epcot Resorts. So mom said look into it. So I am, i am calling on my new Disney friends for help.
Sorry for the rambling,:hammer:

If price isn't an issue, which I'm assuming if the Grand Floridian is an option would be the Wilderness Lodge. The Lodge has a great location, right near the Magic Kingdom and is accessible by boat, yet, it feels like the resort is secluded.

It has a great range of activities for kids. Hidden Mickey Hunts, a slide, a beach and access to Bay Lake. It has a great feel of comfort and luxury. The lobby is 5 stories high and a fire place just as big. There are plenty of little spots for someone to stop at and enjoy. They even have a geyser.

The Lodge is a great place to stay for it's price and convience. :D

I'm not sure how old your parents are and if they spent time in the eastern seaboard beach communities, i.e. Atlantic City, etc in the 40's or 50's but if so I think they would like Boardwalk as well.
And if you are interested in staying together you could get a Grand Villa, that sleeps 12. They are a lot of fun if your family is close. Plus you have the Boardwalk activities and just s short hop over to Epcot, which I'm sure the adults will love.
Not that I'm forgetting about the kids but they are young and will probably not remember much about where they stay, they will just be happy to be at WDW.
My parents and aunt and uncle really like the GF where they stayed this past Christmas but they still liked Boardwalk better from a previous visit.

Since this is a special trip for your parents, I would consider the GF.

As far as your children are concerned...they're at DISNEY!!

Plus, there's a pool and other activities for children.

Is this a kid-friendly environment where we will be comfortable bringing children?

Yes. Children and families with children will not feel out of place.

Besides the theme parks, there are a number of activities for children (special ticket/reservation required) including a Wonderland Tea Party, Pirate Cruise and the Kid Adventures in Cooking.

Adventure Time - weather permitting, may be a game, water balloon toss or something else, Monday-Friday at the pool 3:30 p.m.

Lady Bug Release - Every Thursday at 11:00 am in the 1900 Park Fare Herb Garden.

Mousecraft - Arts and crafts in M. Mouse Mercantile Wednesday at 8 p.m.

Children can enjoy the pool, boats at the marina, and the video games at Gasparilla Grill & Games.

Additionally, the Mouseketeer Clubhouse at the GF provides supervised children's activities, for kids 4-12, from 4:30 p.m. until midnight. For more information and pricing, visit our Childcare FAQ.

Wilderness Lodge is our favorite. It's close to the Magic Kingdom, yet very quiet and relaxing. I'm sure the kids would really enjoy the pool at the Beach/Yacht Club. I'm sure everyone will be happy no matter which you choose.

I think the GF

You know what? I feel like I am such an idiot for not thinking that my kids would be more interestded in Disney i.e. Magic Kingdom that it really won't matter that we stay at the GF. My parents are "young" in the early 60's so age isn't really an issue but I do like how it's right nexts door to the MK.Easy movement with very young kids. My mom's first choice is the GF.
Can you walk to the GF from MK like you can to go to the Contemporary? It would seem like a great walk along the lake with the kids in the stroller.
This is my first time going to Disney in the Summer (mid-late August) I hope the crowds aren't to bad in mid to late August.

If its the parents 40th anniversary, I say go for the GF. Like other posters said, the kids are young enough that as long as they are Disney it won't matter. They have a mousketeer club there and a game room. They have a slide in the pool, with 2 pools. It is not at all just for adults. We just got back from there with my 2 kids, ages 6 and 9. They loved every bit about it. They loved all the beautiful things in the lobby. We visited AK lodge and Polynesian, and they could not stand it cuz it was too dark! They certainly got spoiled fast. Enjoy your trip
