But why does everyone act as if it's an either/or option between "DS" or using the kid's name? :confused: I don't say "DS" when refering to my son. I just say, well, "my son", like I just did. If "DS" means "Dear Son", "Disney Son", or whatever in the heck else the "D" means, and everyone knows it means that, then saying "DS" conveys the exact same meaning as simply typing "my son". So I'm not sure how "DS" protects privacy any more than simply saying "my son". And in the case of "DS" vs "my son", by the time you put forth the effort to move your pinky finger over to hit the "shift" button to capitalize, you're really not saving any time on typing, since "my son" is only 3 extra characters, or 4 if you count the space. Now, "daughter" and "husband" are a few more characters but, IMO, not enough to justify this silly "DH" and "DD" crap.

When I did my trip report on our April trip (my son's first trip), I think I may have mentioned his name once or twice, but other than that, I just simply said "my son and I did this ride", or "my son got his pics with the characters", etc. No need to mention names there, or ages, and "my son" works just as well, or, IMO, better, than "DS".

So my DS was playing with his DS on the way to TDS, when DS suddenly dropped on the floor and we had to buy a new DS...luckily the replacement wsa much nicer than our old DS and we'll never look back

I never do abbreviations. Not even for Journey into Your Imagination. It starts bad habits especially for students writing repots. I forgot myself once because I was so used to forums and texting which I no longer do and I lost a couple of points. Even now I am a full time worker at the time I still try not to get into that habit because I might start up school again when I work early mornings.

Call them out on it...that's what I do. I can not read someone's rudeness to others without reporting it and/or letting them know how I feel about their rudeness. A lot of those posts may get deleted along with the offenders, but just because the internet allows a certain mount of anonymity doesn't give someone carte blache to disrespect others opinions.

I think that Steve and his moderators do a bang up job of keeping things under control. While this forum may not be all sugary sweet all the time, that's what keeps it real and credible. There are plenty of forums where everyone agrees with each other all the time...and they are quite boring.

Ya, I think we, as a society, have become so lazy anymore in having to abbreviate everything, that this is even evident in our fast food chains. Kentucky Fried Chicken has been officially changed to "KFC" and Dairy Queen seems to have followed suit by changing their signs to "DQ". Again, I'm not categorically against abbreviating, across the board. But I do definitely think it needs to be used with moderation and discretion. It just seems to me that we are so lazy anymore that we have to say "DQ" instead of "Dairy Queen", "DS" instead of "my son", etc. And as I mentioned in my example of "DS" vs "my son", by the time you take the effort to capitalize the letters and then if you put the age behind it, it's actually taking MORE effort than just saying "my son". So it seems to me that sometimes we make such an effort to be lazy that we actually put forth more work in our effort to be lazy, than we would if we just typed it out to begin with. :shrug:

The abbreviations don't bother me at all, but all the cutesy nicknames people have for things really drive me crazy.

"ressies"? Isn't it easier to types ADR's? etc.

The only thing I abbreviate is United Parcel Service and thats because if I didn't say UPS no one would know what I am talking about.

I'm currently back in school. I have no problem differentiating my typing from forums to papers, same as from forum to forum. Every forum has its own language. :animwink: I guess I'm a multityper hee hee
