Rumor concerning Phil Holmes

WDW is riding the coattails of its marvelous past. It's still a great place, but the current WDP&R execs have no vi$ion other than $$$. More than any other theme park, Disney parks have to be run by people who care about the product and heritage itself, not just money; otherwise the parks are called Six Flags. It's a business, but Disney created this problem for itself with its legendary commitment to quality.
EXACTLY.

Well said.

quality is what made Disney. Everyone here knows, Walt wanted more then corney island or the traveling fair. It is only a matter of time that lack of vision will hurt Disney. I have stated since Universal announced HP, that can be the best thing for us. Competition brings out the best.

Anyone read Good to be Great. Well Disney was a Leader 5 and so was Circuit City. We all know what happened to Circuit City. Now we know Disney won't vanish, but it can lost its leading edge.

But don't guests also make once in a lifetime trips to Disneyland?

Of course ... and there are no guarantees that anything is ever going to be open.

If Disney management decided to close DAK on Wednesdays beginning in May, then they'd be free to do that too.

You just can't assume things ...

I for one would have no problem if they did this overlay. How was attendance impacted when the Haunted Mansion at the Magic Kingdom was down for the refurbishment?

Honestly, I have no idea. But a HIGHLY educated opinion would be the difference wasn't even a blip ... insignificant, in other words.

Despite all the you hear in forums like this, do you really think folks are cancelling trips to WDW in 2009 because Space Mountain will be closed?

People ... most people that is ... don't plan trips around one attraction unless it is brand new and major ... and even then, it isn't the sole reason for said trips.

I do agree that having the Yeti in "B" mode is bad show. I think the reason they (Walt Disney Company Team Orlando) do not want to have Expedition Everest down is because it is one of, if not the main draw for that park.

It's because repairing it will be costly and will shut it down. But KS is a bigger draw (and a much better attraction) to DAK

Would you please stop. I have been trying to suspend any logical thought process while reading this thread.

That's always a good idea. Drinking alcohol while reading/posting is an even better one.

It does make one wonder about the short length of Mr. MacPhee's tenure as VP of Epcot. As I understand it, he was very popular with the CM's also.

He was indeed.

A poster here recently asked me (off the boards) about Jim's new position.
If you actually hear his name again then he'll likely be doing something of consequence.

If you don't, then you can assume he was put into a nebulous position because they couldn't outright remove him and this 'special projects' position is akin to not being there.

We'll see ...

I think we have come to the end of the thread here all. This seems to be a rumor started by either a person who lost their job at Disney last week, or by a wishful thinking fanboy.

Ah-ha! Tirian!
Sir, please chime in on the Phil rumor. I'm keen to get your take on it.
:D

I've been advised it's merely a rumor.

Considering the rejoicing across the Internet on fan boards from around the world, if I were Phil, I'd be depressed at how many people wanted to see me lose my job. If you were actually doing it, nobody would be happy to see you go.

I can only hope that it may be a wake up call, but who knows.

Either way, it's fascination how a rumor can take on a life like this one did.
I've never seen one spread so fast, and be so widespread in the company.
This one did grow a pair of wings and fly quite quickly. Let us just hope that some good comes from it.

Pressler was a wonderful exec, even for TWDC. He just had NO business running one theme park, let alone all of them.

Rasulo is as bad or worse. At least Paul Pressler seemed like a geuinely nice guy (yeah, I did know him a bit ... sorry, jake). I know he really enjoyed taking his son to DL.

It sounds like he did an amazing job running the Disney Stores.

Rasulo has NO use for the parks at all. Imagine (I am sure for some of you it is reality) having a job you don't like, selling a product you get no joy from (or don't even get) but you do it because it is a good job and it affords you a nice lifestyle. That is Jay.

He doesn't understand his product and he doesn't care to. Look at how much time he spends in the parks versus any of his predecessors.

I just saw an internal promotional image of him for American Idol. It's quite scary. I'd say I'm pretty used to Disney promotional materials, but I have to say I'm amazed how much more fake a smile can be.

Makes you wonder if someone above Phil did it to serve as one.:lookaroun
One would hope that it shows him and higher ups what we want...

Indeed. CM's working at both the Children's (former) Place Disney Store AND the WDW Character Outlet both knew the rumor, down in Miami.

I haven't read through the whole thread, but appears the rumor is false, and possibly management has soiled their pants a little...as they have come to realise sweatshirmoms and lolgurlz aren't the only guests that come to WDW?

I dunno ... what's that saying about it better to be hated than ignored?
I don't know any park VP at WDW to ever stir up the amount of pure emotion that he has though ... and I've known some very good ones and some very bad ones.

I'd just like to hear one person say 'I saw Phil today at work with his badge on' so we can say it was false and planted for whatever reason(s).
