The Village Fry Shoppe in Fantasyland will reopen on 3/26/09. It will be renamed the Friar's Nook. No word on the official menu, but they will most likely be offering the same food (hot dogs, fries, and beverages), however they will no longer serve McDonald's fries.

The description hints at a possible addition or change to the menu, though:

Located in Fantasyland, across from Pooh's Playful Spot, next to Mrs. Potts' Cupboard, in the Magic Kingdom®, Friar's Nook offers tropical refreshments with outdoor seating.

Am I the only one who finds is a little odd that they're putting "Tropical Refreshments" into a place called "Friar's Nook"? To me, tropical refreshments aren't the first things that come to mind when I hear the word "friar"... The old hot dogs and stuff... I can see that...

True--sounds like a giant turkey leg location to me! But I'm still hopeful for another Dole Whip location:slurp:

Actually, it might have been funny if they had the Friar from Robin Hood, yet spelt the name Fryer's Nook. Then they could sell fried foods... but you know how Disney's so healthy these days...

That place will always be Lancer's Inn to me ... the ONLY place to get pizza at the MK in the 1970s.

Not good pizza, but pizza nonetheless.

And lacking in creativity and knowledge of their previous animated creations.

Why would they want to sell you an excellent McDonalds fry for $2.39, when they can sell you a smaller portion of their mediocre Mickey fries for $3.28.

I don't know many friar's that sell tropical foods out of a nook.

Ok, ok, I don't know any friars at all. But still...

I was thinking that myself. Then I flashed on that old Bevis & Butthead where there are no longer allowed to say "fire, fire fire" bcause of a lawsuit against the show.

So at work they start saying "fryer, fryer, fryer: and "flier, flier, flier" etc.

Somehow I don't see a Disney tie-in. Would Cornholio be a face or a fur ?

Enchanted Grove is right around the corner selling OJ, lemonade and frozen lemonade... Perhaps they'll move those to this new location, maybe re-purpose the Enchanted Grove?
