Highs and Lows in Disney: My Mouseketeer's Second trip to the World (1/18 - 1/30)

Well, I’m writing another trip report. This trip has had so many highs and lows (and I mean that in many ways).

Anyhow, this trip involved many more players than our last trip.
http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?t=357959

First of all it’s myself, my DH and our 17 month old, Anastasia. We also went down at the same time as my in-laws, and DH’s two brothers and their wives, as well as my Mom, so it was really a full house.

Without any further ado…

Sunday January 18th

We left way early for the airport because we were paranoid that there would be traffic left over from Obama’s entourage as they followed him to the capital, but there was nothing. DH’s brother got there a full hour after us and we all got on the plane just fine. They amused Anastasia for us right up till when we took off.

She was wearing her airplane shirt again, and again we got many comments on how cute it was. Anastasia made a friend in the airport… a little girl wearing a bandanna was drawing with markers and we got to talking with her. Anastasia wandered off and I said goodbye… well, a few minutes later she tracked us down and said that she wanted Anastasia to have her picture. It wasn’t till we arrived at the Orlando airport and saw the greeter for that family did I draw the line between her head scarf and why she was going to Disney. She was on her Make-a-Wish trip L I nearly cried. But I smiled at them, thanked her for the picture and wished her a fun time in Disney.

The flight itself was interesting. Thank goodness there was an extra seat open for Anastasia. She sat in the carseat the whole plane ride. No explosive poo, no giant meltdowns. My bag of toys kept her involved for a while, as did my extensive bag of snacks. The only problems weren’t really her fault. First of all, I totally forgot about the whole pressure difference thing when I handed her the sippy cup of Pediasure to drink (which I totally snuck by security by putting it in a baby bottle…hehehe) When I pushed back the top closure to release the straw the liquid rushed up and out creating a little fountain that drenched Marc. Poor thing was just covered in Pediasure.

Secondly my borrowed laptop totally bummed out on us and wouldn’t play Finding Nemo for Anastasia. We finally got it running on Marc’s laptop, but not after much consternation and getting up to get stuff out of the overhead compartment.

After we touched down, we got our bags, I changed a diaper, and we stood in a horribly long rental car line. And then we were on our way

We got to the resort and tried to check in… to find that it was practically full to capacity, and the only rooms left were pretty crappy. We actually drove around trying to figure out which one would be the least objectionable. But by the time we got back to the front desk, all the half decent ones were gone and we were stuck with a room that bordered the traffic circle where the buses turn around. Ugh. We resigned ourselves to having to move. And not wanting to waste any time unpacking we decided to head over to Saratoga Springs for a quick dinner and then off to Epcot!

I don’t think it really sunk in that we were at Disney until Anastasia went in the queue for Nemo. Then I think she remembered where she was. She was just mesmerized by Nemo. She kept pointing him out every time he showed up. Oh! And the angler fish was working again!! Yay! It’s so impressive when it’s up and working and not just sitting there stagnant.

Daddy finds a twirly Nemo thingy...

From there we headed over to Imagination for her to see Figment. And this was just as big of a hit as Nemo, to my surprise. I mean, she loved it last time, but she wouldn’t take her eyes off of Figment this time. And of course we had to let her loose at the light area in the Imageworks area.

After that it was back to our bad room for a horrible night’s sleep. The damn buses kept us up until late and when everyone finally got to sleep the people upstairs made some noise and woke Anastasia up. She screamed for a solid 45 minutes and nothing I could do would soothe her. She just wasn’t in her own bed. :(

Monday January 19

We all slept in a little late this morning. After a hurried and meager breakfast (since we hadn’t had time to hit up WalMart yet) we went up to the front desk to get our room changed. Thankfully a decent area opened up and we were allowed to change.

We spent the morning at Epcot again. It was kinda on the crowded side, being MLK day and all. First we hit the characters.

Oh so cute.

She walked right up to each one and gave huuuge hugs to them all. She’s been in such a huggy mood lately. But she was so happy to see them all. She acted like they were old friends. It was funny seeing how she interacted with them differently this time. When we went in September she was just so much in awe of the characters that she didn’t know what to do. This time she just made herself at home. She was poking at Mickey’s buttons, kissing everyone on the nose (except Donald.. no nose to kiss) giving high fives, playing peek-a-boo with Pluto. Such a ball.

We had a great Goofy - one of many this trip... He got down on all fours to play with her. She loved every minute.

From there we wanted to go to the Land but Anastasia had another idea. She spied the Imagination pavilion, pointed at it, said please, and pulled Marc by the hand so we could go visit Figment again. So we did!

I've never noticed this hallway before...

We had our photo taken in Imageworks

On the way to the World Showcase we had to stop and pick up leaves...

From there we toured Norway and Mexico and then headed back for her nap. I hit up WalMart for provisions. We changed our room to a much nicer one that doesn’t have buses roaring past and we spent a quiet evening in. Anastasia had a bath in the huge Jacuzzi tub in our room which made up for the fact that it’s been way too cold for her to play in her beloved fountains. She had fun and then conked out.

Great report ..and love pics of the little one!!! Tell me, the resort you stayed at , did you manage to move your room by any chance (I know you said they were'nt the greatest....) Hopefully yours was'nt like ours, We stayed at Wilderness Lodge first time last week, Dvc members our home Resort is SSR.
Not only was our first room dirty with towels on the floor , the bed clearly sat on ( pillows here and there) luggage tags still in the room (not ours)..
Went back to front desk, they appologized next room dirty as well, more towels on the luggage rack , drying ... And yes more luggage tags...Called front desk they said because the were booked nothing they could do...

Went to front desk talked to the WL studio manager explained what happened, he apoligized, Said they would send housekeping to clean it and if we wanted to we could move the next day, after check out...

The room the next day was much better, but I was so excited over staying at WL and that put a bit of a sour taste in my mouth.....
If i got a Clean room the first nite....That would have been great...Overall it is as gorgeous resort.....But....I have to admit, I missed my SSR....

We complained and were moved to another room when one opened up the next day. Sadly we were charged the $45 room change fee to pay for a cleaning of the old room, but it was WELL worth it to make sure the damn busses didn't wake us all up well into the night. The room itself was clean and tidy, but the location left a LOT to be desired. That's why we had to pay the fee - the room was fine, we were just picky about where the room was.

One day I should stay at SSR too.. it's our home resort, but we've just never stayed there yet.

I may have missed this somewhere, but what resort are you staying at?

I should have put this in somewhere. Mommy-brain :dazzle: We were at Old Key West

Funny you should say that... there's LOTS more flower sniffing to come.

Enjoying your report. Can't wait to read more!

Thanks

Enjoyed your report and your lovely photos. She's a real little cutie pie.

We had to stand in an awful car rental line too - so next trip we are going to split up, I'll wait for bags and DH will go off to get the car sorted. Looking forward to more photos :)
