Say goodbye to ALL the clubs at PI.

Heading for the great escape.
I'm disappointed that I never got the chance to experience the Adventurers Club, but I am going to hold off any judgment on the closing of PI until I know what kinds of restaurants and shops will be replacing it. I have seen alot of people here saying that Downtown Disney will become a "themed strip mall," but I don't think you can really say that until you know for certain what will be replacing it. Personally, I think Raglan Road is a great concept and more places like that would not be bad. I expect to see more places like Raglan Road or House of Blues (which combine entertainment and food) rather than just run-of-the-mill restaurants.

An Irish theme pub and dinner shows. Not exactly revolutionary.

Perhaps we can expect Factory outlets, sizzler and Dennys too.

If AC is making money, I'm would think they will do something with it. What about moving it to AK or AKL? Didn't Joe design this and he runs AK. I think he visted AC alot.

DTD traffic has reduced, at least for me, for 2 reasons:

1) The limited use of the Dining Plan. Many non-Disney owned places don't accept it because its not profitable.
2) EMH evening and special parties at MK. The parks are open until 1am most of the time.

Sad .

I have enjoyed going to PI for the past 10 years. It offered an alternative to the parks for adults that was clean, safe and still had that "Disney feel". I also agree that it has gone down hill some, but the real tragedy is to replace it with over priced restaurants/bars with some live music here and there.

At the very least, I hope the PI night clubs will be replaced with more unique/cool experiences like AC (hopefully they spare this :brick:).

There is apparently a possibility of that (although rumor)....see discussions on "Night Kingdom".

I just emailed Mr. Iger to tell him exactly how I feel regarding the closing of the Adventurers Club, and all of PI.

I encourage each of you to do the same.

I know it's not Disney, but when the Jaws ride at Universal Orlando was closed permanently, so many people emailed and called and wrote in protest that they decided to reopen it, regardless of the fact that it's the most expensive theme park ride to operate in the world.

Let's try and fix this mess.

In order to attract visitors to DD, I think Disney will try to bring in unique stores and restaurants that are well-themed and of a good quality. DD already has some great food/entertainment such as Wolfgang Puck, House of Blues, Rainforest Cafe, Raglan Road, Fultons, etc. I really don't see "average"/everyday stores and restaurants moving in. Disney will try to do something special, giving visitors things they can't experience anywhere else.

Well, that's fantastic... drive the 'younger, visiting the World without children' demographic off-property at night to Universal. That's what my wife and I and our friends are going to be doing, and I'm certain we're not the only ones.

I think the best part is that it's going to be more shopping and restaurants, because certainly there isn't enough of that in the Marketplace, the West Side or the current incarnation of P.I.. Honestly, you could see them putting the axe to the grinder when they made it so anyone could pass through P.I. and suddenly you've got family reunions complete with dancing toddlers taking place in the walkways.... nothing says party time is over quite like seeing a 2 year old dancing to Lil Wayne at midnight.

It'll be interesting to see what happens with the Premium Annual Passes. They're removing a big perk from the offering, but I'm kind of guessing the last thing they'll consider doing is lowering the pass asking price. I guess the bright side is they'll offer a 10% discount on whatever crap is being sold in the bright, shiny new stores, and maybe a discount between the hours of 12 noon and 2 pm for lunch, monday through tuesday at whatever new theme restaurants they're putting in. That balances out removing entry to a half dozen clubs, right?

"ORLANDO, Fla. -- Disney will close all six nightclubs on Pleasure Island on September 27th to make way for new renovations.
8 Trax, The Adventure’s Club, Mannequins Dance Palace, the BET Soundstage Club, Motion and the Comedy Warehouse will be gone for good."

Operating night clubs never did seem to fit the Disney business model.
I think they are just getting back to the core business of WDW.

IMHO

Good riddance to the makeover at PI ... the concept just didnt work for most people - The whole bar/club roudy late-teen/20-something atmosphere just didnt blend in, and Disney finally realized that. Of course there are going to be people that will complain and will miss it, but they are definitely in the minority IMO.

Cant speak for the AC .. it sounds pretty cool, but if really is that good Im sure they will find a way to preserve it somewhere on property.

Happy with the decision overall .. I trust whatever they end of putting there will cater to the greater demographic that spend money at Disney (which PI definitely didnt do).

I think part of what really bothers me, as an Annual Pass Holder, they're removing value from what I've paid a decent sum for, only to replace the offerings with places I can spend more money at. They're eliminating a $60 value from the perks, but as an exchange, they're going to put in restaurants that you can spend $60 for one meal for a dinner for two. It smells of rip-off and I really don't respect it.

Please tell me you are being a drama queen or joking or I will ______ myself  You bought DVC because of one small club? And now you will sell it? That's so insane I can't even compare it to anything in my rational world.

No he's not being a drama queen (he's my husband!) he's just very upset that the place we love so much is going away. And no we wont being selling our DVC because we love all that WDW has to offer, we just loved the AC the most.

We also have great friends in Orlando who are just as upset as us, I liken it to an Arsenal fan being told that the Emirates stadium is about to the bulldozed. It's not the end of the world but today it sucks a heck of a lot.

PI was the only place I could go in Florida that was a smoke free enviroment. I also felt safe and it was relatively cheap for me. Now I have no clue where I will go out. I really don't feel safe going downtown.

The dance hall at the boardwalk is smoke free and no cover. I will miss pleasure island.. Well I should say I'll miss the comedy warehouse....

Hey Belle!

Yes, even though WDW is a "family" place it was so nice to a tiny corner of it just for the grown ups.

However the definition may be the same but the make up of the modern family is a damn site different from Walts day.

Theres also the international factor where johnny foreigner dosent get quite so hysterical over alcohol and slippery nipples.
