Considering the is constant and over everything Disney says/does...I'd say it would happen no matter what the campaign they announced yesterday was. People love having something to rant and rave about.

If Disney announced a campaign that didn't suck- then yes :)

There were TONS of positive feedback for the time that the volunteer program lasted. A campaign ran to benefit people in a fair, unique way tht also encourages community effort. Genius. It probably helped millions.

People are only when given a reason. Memories, imo, is that reason- a good reason.

There were complaints about even that, here and elsewhere on the internet.

As I said, it doesn't matter what Disney does. People will moan and groan about how much they hate it. A quick glance around these boards illustrates that.

There's always the black sheep and everyone else in that thread didn't defend his opinion. All you did was use the search feature to find the one thread. It proves nothing.

It was such a positive campaign with an actual meaning. Very Disney like.

And when you're the minority when you DO like this campaign, that's when you know it's a failed attempt at appealing to the masses.

Have you somehow polled the masses? Otherwise you don't know what the minority/majority is outside the vocal fanboys. What the hardcore fans feel and what the general public feels are two vastly different things.

For things like this that are meant to catch a Disney fan's eye, I would be astounded if the public thought differently.

Judging by this poll, yes. Almost 100% more people don't like this than like this here. Here, people are entranced by Disney. So much so that we signed up to this site. Yes, that makes total sense to think we'd go way harder on Disney than the general public.

And are we all hardcore Disney fans though? Think about it. Or are a lot of us people who frequently or are about to visit WDW?

And aside from retro Epcot things and giant hats, when does the general public disagree with the opinions we express here? Not often if I had to bet.

You're basing your entire argument on a poll of 129 people on a Disney fan message board?

Also for it to be "Almost 100% more" the poll would have to be 1 to 128...just saying.

And yes, the majority of people on this board are hardcore Disney fans. People who care when things are painted a different color, a snack is changed at a counter service restaurant, when ride elements are/aren't working and a bunch of other things the general public doesn't notice or care about. The posters here obviously have a vested interest in Disney/WDW otherwise they wouldn't be here.

Fact of the matter is the majority of the general public likely has NO idea this campaign even exists, and won't know about it until the television commercials begin to roll out.

Yes. I feel this community is representative of the public who go to WDW. Or at least the ones who would participate in this vote.

And, since most people who aren't on Disney message boards love the icons and their cliche pictures, I'm sure that will be a thorn in their side once they find out.

And 100% more, in this case, would mean double. For example: for every 1 who likes it, 2 don't. So, a total of 600 like it. 100%= 600. 1200= 2(600)= 100% + 100% = 100% more than 100%. You see?

Really? Most are hardcore? That'd be an interesting poll. I highly doubt that, but it's only up to your opinion. And anyone would have a vested interest in Disney if they're willing to spend 3,000 + for a single vacation and come to this site to help plan their upcoming trip the best way possible- that doesn't mean they're all obsessed with Figment because they registered and it doesn't mean their room has a replica model of Spaceship Earth on their computer desk.

When the TV commercials pour out, will the public even notice?

You realize that this board has over 70,000 members right? This poll isn't even an accurate representation of this board as whole, let alone the general public.

And if you sincerely believe that the majority of people who participate on these forums aren't more personally invested in WDW happenings than someone who visits once every 5-10 years or is even just visiting for the first time...I don't even know what to tell you.

70,000 active members? I'd love to see where you got this from.

You can't poll everyone. But if you get a sample of people then that's what you go with. That's how stats work.

And using a sample of people who love Disney, you'd think they'd love this memories campaign. WRONG.

Like I said earlier, it makes perfect sense for this campaign to appeal to the general public who go once every 5-10 years.

Yes. That's very accurate.

Where did I say the word "active"? We're talking the board as a whole. Don't attempt to distort my comments in an attempt to further your opinion.

You're arguing in circles, point is you don't know what the majority (general public) wants/will like. I don't know what the majority wants/will like. I don't even know how you can keep trying to dispute that. General public reaction to this campaign is yet to come.

And no, a sample of people from this board, who are VERY critical (and dare I say a bit jaded) of just about everything...no I would not expect them to love this. Not by a long shot.

I think people are getting worked up over what seems to be a relatively small thing. I also think Disney made a way bigger deal of this than was needed. They are going to make a few new commercials and they are going to put some projections on the Castle/Small World. I don't see how it can be a bad thing.

I think the only way it could be bad is if this replaced any kind of night time show. If this replaces Wishes (or whatever it happens to be at the time) with some pictures of families, I might get a little upset. Sure it will be nice for people to see photos of themselves for a brief moment but they still need to have something to go along with it.

it also gets people more involved more with Disney, how can that be bad? Plus, like someone already said, with the millions they are saving by essentially having other people make their commercials, that money can go somewhere else.

Not really. Personally I do not like the idea of having random family photos projected on Cinderella Castle including my own. Too me...it takes away from the magic. Like I said that is just my opinion. I bet there are alot of people out there that will love it...I am just not one of them. As far as "people love having something to rant and rave about"....I doubt the constant b------- would be going on if Disney announced information that was "unique" if you know what I mean. This celebration is nothing like the last 3 or 4 that they have had. IMHO...it is very bland. :)

It's just not my favorite. But I like to believe that the money they are saving by chintzing out on this campaign will be put to good use on the additions and expansions in the works! Trying to look on the bright side. Trying.
such as raises for a vp or ceo?

Frankly, the last unique celebration was YOAMD. Asking what will you celebrate is just as "bland" as telling people to make memories. Happiest Celebration on Earth basically consisted of more crap glued to the castle and attraction clones coming to WDW. That basically sums up the last 5 or so years worth of Disney Parks celebrations.

You said there were 70,000 members on this site. Only active members are ... active. This board isn't represented by 70,000 people. Only a couple thousand are probably active out of those bunch.

If I judged by the reaction on Disney Parks Blog from everyone so far that has heard of the campaign, the results are pretty clear. Now, if you want to wait for the public to find out then okay. I'll wait it out and you get back to me. Now, there is a general Disney public that has seen it and I would bet my life's savings that their opinion will be the public's opinion because once again, Disney fans would not bash a campaign more than the general public. It just never happens. That's like the third time I've said that. So, you think that and I'll think this. We'll see in the near future

below is a quote from disney parks blog

"Have you heard? We’re unveiling some exciting plans for Disney Parks in New York City in less than 24 hours. And you bet we’ll be announcing some good stuff that you’ll want to know about. So, on Thursday we’re offering live coverage of the event here on The Disney Parks Blog. You’ll be able to watch and interact in real time as we raise the curtain on what’s coming. We don’t want to give away any of the surprises but expect to see a few faces you’ll instantly recognize along with Disney characters and Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Tom Staggs."

while it was nice to watch an infomercial for AFV and DWTS (the Hoff is laying back stage curled up in a ball saying they like me in germany)and M. J. Fox's work with helping to cure Parkinson's disease the rest of the press conference was lacking in any real information as to the exciting plans for the Disney Parks .and doesnt "plans" mean more than one
all I seen was a plan for the next marketing campain

For me, a lot will depend on the new music and song that goes with the castle display. Music stays in my head a lot longer than images. Let's hope the new song is memorable!
