What I think...as of today...for now...

I was just browsing the list of permits and came across a few that MIGHT answer some of the recent questions:

Q: Is there tunnel work involved with the FLE?

A: Yes. I'm pretty sure we already knew this after all of the discussion and illustrations, but this permit sort of solidifies it.

Q: What are the walls for inside the Speedway?

A: SeaCastle pointed out that they may have a need to relocate the fuel tank for the Speedway, since it's currently located in ToonTown. It's a long shot, but on a permit was filed for "Fantasyland Expansion - Tank Relocation". They don't have to necessarily start work immediately after filing a permit/notice, so there's a slim change that these are related.

It appears the only tunnel work is for enclosing a exterior sidewalk from the tunnel entrance to wardrobe/lockers/maintenance stuff. On the old plans it was to extend to the Meet'n Greet building but it now seems to end in a new concrete wall (cut?). The only other below park level space is the receiving dock/food storage/maybe kitchen for BatB.

All the trees are gone inside that fence now.

Now that I think about it, the permit I cited was for "Chateau #1 and Tunnel". Unless it's talking about Belle's M&G, that was probably specifically for the Cindy "chateau" and associated tunnel (the one you mentioned) - and is probably null and void.

I believe that concept was called Cartoon Corners, was it not?

You know, I never heard a title so I'm not sure. It was described to me, but no one mentioned a name.

That would be epic. I really hope that if this was ever on the shelf that it gets dusted off at some point and built somewhere. Love the idea.

Apparently Lasseter is a big fan of the really old-school Mickey cartoons (back when the Mouse was cool) and that helped instigate the project. Ultimately the project was a little too "next-gen" for some executives so Disney backed out of it. What I heard sounded awesome, though. And it'd be a nice way to make the characters interesting again.

AFAIK, you are correct - the only tunnel involved in the expansion provided access to Cindy's haus, which is now kaput. In fact, this was where a lot of the big cost savings came from when the plans changed, and allowed for the possibility of more elaborate replacement attractions.

TOO next-gen? That's just what they need right now. :(

Could you share what you heard about the ride? Through here or even PM by chance?

This is why I love the guy! He has a good eye for classics.

Well, apparently that's the idea behind the videogame Epic Mickey - to make Mickey a little scrappier, plus cast him in his retro form, in an attempt to make him, as you say, interesting again. If the video game is a hit, maybe a Lasseter will re-open the project. That would be awesome.

tiny pics are tiny. I am starting to think the entire reason for the big hill of dirt is to block the view of LM from Dumbo :p

What happened to Scott Keating? We haven't had an aerial in close to a month. C&D order perhaps?

Agreed x 2!

I really do think the stockpile is intentionally placed. I'm sure they needed to store dirt anyway, but the placing is all too convenient!

And yeah, where is Scott? I'm having withdrawl. Maybe he was banned from their airspace

You're right!!!
Yesterday, while taking new pics, I noticed from Tomorrowland that there were new walls on th LM site, but the pile of dirt is way too high to take pictures of that spot!

Lasseter does not get to decide which projects are in active development nor is he involved in day-to-day design. His role is to offer advice and some input. Beyond that, the most he can really do for a project is voice his support for it, but he does not get an official say in the decision.

Since a large portion WDI's assets are now going to be dedicated to developing concepts for Shanghai, is WDW's window of opportunity closing?

It almost appears as though TDO is going to get its wish and a scaled back FLE and ST2 are all we have to look forward to. From construction pics over the wall it would appear much of the project has stalled.

Would corparate pull up stakes and inform TDO they are on their own?
