Tales Of The Black Freighter may not have been essential, but it is hardly pointless. The Allegory and paralles to the main story are what I would call the whip cream and cherry on top of my sundae.
I had heard the same thing about the ending, which is confirmed in this article. I will trust Snyder to do the right thing...I have to. I own the shirt he is wearing in that picture.

The only one I'm not crazy about is Ozy. He looks too..."Batman & Robin" to me. (it could be the Batnipples!)
I think that's intentional, as Zach Synder said awhile ago that he wanted to hold a mirror up to superhero movies in the way Watchmen did with comic books, in particular the costume choices *ahem* in Batman & Robin for one of the characters.

Today brings our first few looks at the "Watchmen" based prequel short-story games that you will be able to download sometime before the movie comes out, following two stories of Rorschach and Nite Owl in 1973. I have to say that it looks great!
