What are the advantages/disadvantages to booking a land and sea package for the Disney Cruise Line vs. booking the cruise and resort stay seperately?

Well if you book the Land & Sea package you'll get:
-Limited choice of resorts and views
-A forced number of days to stay at WDW
-A forced ticket style
-No dining plan

When you book separately you'll get:
-5 extra minutes on the phone to make the extra reservation?

I've done it both ways and really the only advantage of booking it together is it's more convenient for people who are overwhelmed with the thought of booking a WDW stay without help.

Come on, that's a silly statement. We're saving several hundred dollars with a Land/Sea vs. booking same hotel, ship cabin, and park tix separately.

If you're looking for the most inexpensive accomodations, the Land/Sea likely isn't the way to go, but it can be a good value for a full week of Disney.

You are also not limited in the number of land days like people think. Disney Cruise Line will gladly book you pre or post days for your trip at the same hotel you will be staying at for your "Land" portion. This is quick and easy to do, the only 'downside' is that you can't change your resort for these pre/post days, you will have to stay in the same resort as you are booked into for the 'land' portion. If you want to stay somewhere else then you will have to go through CRO for that. Also is you book pre/post days, if you wish to go to a park you will need to buy separate tickets as the tickets that come with the land and sea package are for set days and the number of days cannot be altered. As for the dining plan, if you are booking for this year then you can book the dining plan for the 'land' portion of your trip. The dining plan cannot yet be added to cruise bookings for 2009. If you are booking for next year then if you want the dining plan you can go ahead and book the cruise and then when the packages are announced for next year, if the dining plan is once again being offered for the Land and Sea cruise, you can call DCL and have them add it to your reservation.

Another plus to booking the land and sea package is that Disney takes care of the transportation between Orlando International, your resort and Port Canaveral. If you book them separately you will find that you may have to look into getting yourself from your resort to Port Canaveral and from Port Canaveral to the airport.

DCL transfers can be arranged to pick you up at Walt Disney World, but only at the resorts that they normally pick up from. The additional cost is $1. You can be returned to WDW for a resort stay after your cruise too.

You can still use Magical Express to or from the airport to your Disney resort.

hi
well i always book my trip with two different booking. i like going on the cruise first. then to world. the different is that when you book a land package is that you stay at depending on your cabin is your choice of hotel. you will stay in a mod or above hotel. since i don't stay in the room that much then i always choose a value resort
you can book a cruise and then bus from the airport and then from the ship to your hotel you booked at disney. then you can use the disney express from the hotel to the airport after your trip is done.
the nice thing i look going after is when you get into to port you don't have to rush off the ship to get to the airport. you can take your time getting off the ship and then get on the bus and they take you right to your resort. you can check in and get your bags to bell hop. they can store your luggage if your room is not ready and you can go off to the parks.
this will be my three times this year i have done it.
