SSE...The Wall Is Gone !!

Wow...1993-1994 were like the last really good years Walt Disney World had before poor management took over. You haven't missed much since your last visit other than the whole resort going to the dogs (things have started improving recently...but at a snails pace).
Lets see, most attended theme parks in the World. 1) MK 2) DL 3) Epcot 4) DS 5) AK, four out of the top five, they sure are attracting a lot of DOGS. In our quest to prove that WDW isn't worth spit because of it's management, lets remember that there are Millions, and Millions of people that would disagree. Could it use some improvement, sure. Just remember that no matter what Disney does they will not make everybody happy.

How do you know those millions upon millions disagree?? Most of those folks are first time visitors who don't have a clue what to expect. They wouldn't know the parks have been run to the ground until they arrive and actually walk around and experince the attractions. I bet if you ask these "millions, and millions of people" after their vacaction a large chunk will say either they were dissatisfied or were expecting a bit more from Disney.

Hey, millions and millions are happy with Blackpool Pleasure Beach. Think Six Flags but with zero theming and landscaping.

Appologies to any BPB fans - just an example.

No theming?
Come on, Martin! Infusion has water fountains!
:lookaroun
Okay, okay.... 1% theming. Assuming they are still working by the end of the season. I really must drag myself over to try Infusion, but walking around the 60`s concrete jungle is so painful.

There again, it`s 3 years since we went to Alton Towers, and that and Blackpool are less than 90 minutes away.

I admit it, I made that last comment to try to stir some jelousy up with those who have "x miles from WDW" in their username. Somehow I don`t think it`ll work....

Doubtful that may of them would say they were dissatisfied, WDW wouldn't consistently rank at the top if that were the case. Also based upon the small sampling of people that I know that have gone to WDW none of them would say they were dissatisfied. Could some things have been better - yes, but I'd guess only a small fraction would rank it as dissatisfied.

I would hardly classify WDW as run to the ground, however you are intitled to your opinion. By most being first time visitors what percentage would you say 80%. If it was that high that would still leave Millions, and Millions of stupid repeat visitors. I think most everyone on this forum was a new guest at one time. Boy are we really dumb for going back to a run down resort that's going to the dogs. On top of that we are paying a premium price to do so. If you think most people are disatisfied with WDW I think you would be wrong. If most people felt that way it would soon get out to the general public. You sure do remind me of someone, I just can't quite put my finger on it. I'll have to ask my good friend MPierce over on Laughing Place maybe he will recognize who you remind me of.

I bet they don't spend thousands of pounds on a trip there. They probably don't fly across the pond to visit either. It's much easier to expect less from that park, and still be happy with it. I was very happy with Astroworld, however I would not have returned if it were a 10.000 pound price tag. Since I have never been fortunate enough to visit the birth place of my ancestors I really feel unqualified to comment on a theme park there. I could possibly be happy with it, if the price were right.:D

What I don't understand is why people keep defending every single thing Disney does even when its obvious they are doing something wrong. Are you people getting paid big bucks by Disney to say positive things? if not then why are you wasting time getting into arguments trying to skew opinions?

Just step aside, we are doing you a favor by complaining because hopefully the mouse will listen and improve things. So even if you live in your lala land where Disney World is great at least you can rest easy knowing their are people like me fighting to make Disney better.

The current epcot doesn't work, Test Track and Mission:Space are not e-ticket attractions in the true sense of the word (the new Submarine Voyage at Disneyland is more akin to a true e-ticket), upkeep at the magic kingdom isn't what it should be...you are not going to change my opinion or anyone else's on the matter.

Sorry if I sound mad im not I just wanted to get that off my chest.

No one here suggests that WDW is perfect but sometimes the items being complained about are ridiculous.

I think Epcot is a mess and not even a shell of it's former self in terms of having a theme and an identity - though it is getting some improvements.

I think MK is in major need of improvements and some TLC - though they have started to do these things.

I think MGM is... well I don't have enough time so I'll just say I like RnRC and ToT, beyond that is very sad.

However I think people go way overboard when they complain about trivial things like it ruined their vacation... one light bulb was burned out on a lamp in frontier land, there was gum on the walkway between Norway and Mexico, one mortar was .5 seconds off of timing during RoE... These things are trivial, just get over it and enjoy your vacation.

Can WDW be better, you bet it can. To say it is perfect is far from the truth but to say it disappoints huge numbers of guests is far from the truth as well.

WDW certainly does not disappoint the majority of its guests. I'd find it hard to believe that anywhere close to a majority of average guests feel that their vacation is truly unsatisfactory. People eat it up.

That's great, but for those of us who (for lack of a simpler term) "know better", it's part of the problem. The standards at WDW have been slipping, and it's very visible to anyone who has visited with any frequency over the last 8-10 years or more. But most average guests don't know what kind of quality they should be expecting--and so they don't demand it.

WDW is as popular and well-loved as ever, and in the case of some parks, more than ever before. That can't be disputed. But that doesn't mean the parks are doing great. Some Disney bloggers say WDW is already at the level of competing parks like Universal that were originally built to cash in on Disney's popularity...I would not say that yet, but it's clear that a cynical assumption has become the norm at Disney that says the guests just won't notice when things decline to "good enough". By and large, that mindset is proving true...and if it keeps up, Disney can't hope to be any more special or worthwhile than its competitors. :(

None of that is new thinking, but just remember that popularity with guests does not always equal quality when guests don't remember what quality used to be.

Please point out anywhere that I've given Disney a free pass on anything. Sure there are a lot of areas WDW could improve on, I don't need to point them out to anyone here. I am in no way trying to change your opinion. When you say the current Epcot doesn't work, you are stating your opinion. I don't think you live in LaLa Land just because you have a different opinion from mine. I am of the opinion that there is much more right with Epcot than there is wrong. It certainly has a lot of room for improvement, but I would hardly characterize it as going to the dogs. If there were no hope in sight for improvement I would be one of the loudest whiners. I believe they are showing a trend to try an improve WDW at all the parks. I will continue to address my concerns with WDW as I have been doing, in e-mail, snail mail, and on this forum. However I will use reasonable wording anytime I have something to complain about. If you think your Crusade on a Disney Forum will change WDW into what you want it to be, I am happy for you. Just don't think you are doing me any favors. If you want to do me a favor come over here, and mow my lawn.

The Grand National.... the ride that makes SSEs return to earth feel like padded leather luxury.

Finally though, I have a better reason to return to Alton Towers- to get you some pictures. BTW, if you don`t have any POVs of Nemesis I`ll dig a few out. And take you step by step though the parks history in October (I can hear the yawns from here  )

Still OT but a bit off topic, but since we`re having one of those moments with this thread, a message from Michelle my GF. NOTE - I have absolutely nothing to do with this comment, and in no way condone it, her train of thought, or her in general for thinking this:

What if the bulbs are burning out because they are replacing the "Epcot" logo with a "25th" logo intime for October like the "2000" writing?

It`s only taken us 8 years to get to this stage and she`s shattered our hopes in one fell swoop.

BTW; those in the park on October 1st have my permission to tell her what they think of her idea. Be my guest. Really. No, really. Please!
