Could someone please explain why this attraction cost so much, the building was already there. What did Disney do, put a polititcian from Louisiana in charge of overseeing the finances.
I`d imagine it would have been cheaper to build a new shed with a facade - the building was a CircleVision theatre; and was built as such - just removing From Time to Time and having a bare shell the right size and shape to begin with again would have cost a small fortune.

Then factor in building a new auditorium and pre show / waiting area, associated infrastructure and then begin to budget the actual attraction. It soon adds up. Wasn`t AE or SGE $35M?

It sounds like a lot, but really isn't. When you add together the construction costs (which are high in FL), design, licensing, etc., it adds up quickly. Sadly, that is about the same budget they gave to the revamp of IMAG.

The Pixar guys that have seen it want it closed, gutted, and have something else built. However, $40 million is $40 million... that's a lot of money to write off on an attraction.

Basically, the WDI guys have been told to fix it or else.
Hmm...very interesting...

You bring up a good point... a great portion of that money shouldn't factor in to the "$40 mil. lost" concept because deconstruction needed to be done anyway. While I doubt they'd scrap the current project, the loss wouldn't be near $ 40 million.

I'm not sure how much the transition from AE to SGE cost, but my numbers for the original construction of AE are roughly $112 mil. Anyone know the amount spent on the SGE makeover?

Also the cost of the animation and the technology involved should be factored in....I could see something like this attraction costing 40 million...

I just hope it ends up being worth it. I doubt they'll scrap it now though...especially after putting so much money into it and having it mentioned in all sorts of news stories and press releases. But hey you never know.

EDIT: I should learn how to read. I just noticed you mentioned the cost of the actual show in your post Marni...

I saw a test show in December and I thought it need more work and was in no way ready for prime time. Putting the computer glitches aside as that will be worked out, the entry way reminded me of the Animation Tour in MGM. I thought the theatre looked really neat, just like a comedy club set up which it is supposed to be, but with a cartoonish flare.

Roz was totally hysterical and her character was great and any more they could do with her would be funny. She is just so crabby and cynical which is what makes her funny, just like Crush because he is so out there and laid back like a sterotype surfer dude.

Mike's nephew was not bad, he was pretty good. The other two monsters were not funny and the jokes and things they did reminded me of a Bugs Bunny cartoons. In the audience I was in, only the kids were laughing at the jokes and it almost sounded like a forced laugh because I think they thought they had to laugh. Almost none of the adults were laughing, except at the beginning with Roz.

I thought that there were things missing from the show, namely Sully and Boo. Maybe Boo could terrorize the new comedians. I thought that Sully should have come in at the end to save the day and put them over the laugh quota (which is something I told the imagineers at the end when we walked up and spoke with them).

Turtle Talk is far better and it has repeatability for me and blows the laugh floor away. In the current shape of the laugh floor, I could see it once and not see it again unless I was with someone who hadn't seen it and wanted to go. I think this show has great potential to be funny, they just needs to work it a bit better with the commedians.

I like the idea of putting Boo in...she could add a new level of comedy for those parents with young children. Hopefully all these tests/previews are for the best...

That makes EE seem like a real bargain.
