Maybe I'm going crazy but I could have sworn when I was a kid around the same time as I saw "teaser" posters for TOT I thought I saw something plugging an attraction or show or something to do with David Copperfield.

What was this and what happened to it.... or am I just insane?:veryconfu

I remember that too!
I recall a billboard type advertisement right outiside the entrance to one of the parks. . .I think it might have been MGM. . .with his picture. This is going back a few years!

You're not crazy, there was a poster up in the front of Disney Studios, but the project didn't get as far as planned and was cancelled.

In 1996, David Copperfield announced plans for an interactive, magic-themed restaurant, Copperfield Magic Underground, to be located in Times Square in New York and at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, and those are just the beginning. Unlike theme restaurants of the 90s, Copperfield Magic Underground will take patrons on a magical adventure where they will actually experience the magic as they dine.

Rumours indicate that the whole David Copperfield project has been aborted. This follows the failure of the first project in New York.

The giant poster outside Disney Studios has been replaced with Rock n Rollercoaster.

ah ok glad I'm not going mad! definitely remember it being outside the studios on the billboard to your left as you exit to get the tram.

I remember the teaser posters of TOT too and thinking "I wonder what that ride will be like".

There was a poster in a West Side store window also for awhile. The store that is immediately right of the AMC entrance across from PI (current name escapes me).

Oh well, theme restaurants are so 90's anyway!

In November 1997, a David Copperfield Magic Underground store opened in Downtown Disney's West Side. I don't think it's there anymore, perhaps it was replaced by Magic Masters, there now?

I don't believe Copperfield's store ever opened. It was just signs on the windows. Eventually they turned the space into what is now the Mickey's Groove shop. The Magic Masters store is in a different location and opened long after the Copperfield signs were removed.

They're converting the current rainforest cafe, not building another restaurant.
If you're talking about the T-Rex themed restaurant... It's 'replacing' the Rainforect Cafe??

 I happen to have a hand drawing of the concept of what the place was to look like. It was laid out, basically in the shape of a "Mickey Mouse" head. The two ears were the entrance and exit of the place. There was a "transition" tunnel that involved some sort of special effect, allowing you into the place. Very much along the lines of the elevators in Disney quest.

Other tidbits:

D.A.V.I.D- Digital Audio Video Interface Device would be used to allow David to remotely interact with the guests in the restaurant. It was basically a high tech videophone system.

The waiters would perform magic tricks as they severed your meal.

Some tables would "Float" as well as other items around the restaurant.

The land for the restaurant was in the process of being cleared and built, plans had been drawn and it wasn't cheap for him to shut down the building process.
