For what it's worth, this still happens. On our last visit, we saw Mad Hatter and Alice ride the Tea Cups. Mary Poppins and Bert rode the carousel.

It's pretty embarrassing, frankly. They couldn't even pull off the meager new decorations promised by the concept art. It looks like something Six Flags would do to spruce up a forgotten corner of one of its parks.

All of the buildings on that side of the hill needed to go sooner or later regardless of whether this coaster was built. There are foundational problems with the hill - stuff is sinking, slowly.
