DCL Food Picture of the Day

My problem was that they would put the food in front of me and it looked so good I would have eaten half of it and then suddenly remember that I had meant to take a picture first. I didn't get many appetizer photos...

DCL Food Picture of the Day

Thanks for adding the line from the menu that tells what it is. Last trip when we got back I sometimes even didn't remember what restaurant it was, much less what it was called... We sail June 3 and I am looking forward to some great meals!

Me too. Wife loves it but give me good old iceberg lettuce. This type of salad looks to me like somebody weeded the garden.

    News Roger E. Broggie overhaul

The first time I did the tour I was the ONLY one on the tour. Now THAT was a real treat!

Does Rivers of America have a strong current?

The rafts that take you to TSI have diesel engines. I got a CM to open it up and let me look at it our last trip.

Will a fifth gate ever be built at WDW?

Maybe, but nobody but the 10 richest people in the world will be able to afford it.

DCL Food Picture of the Day

Yes, but... By the time you have an appetizer, entre, and dessert you will probably be full. And if you want more, or want to try something different, just ask. I think they would keep bringing whatever you asked for until you exploded. Cleanup at table 93!!!

Does Rivers of America have a strong current?

No, it is not the same thing. The only purpose of the track is to guide the riverboat. The propulsion is provided entirely by the paddlewheel.

News 1900 Park Fare at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort reopening in April 2024

These three made 1900 Park Fair one of the best character dinners at WDW. Won't be the same without them.

Feedwater heaters on the WDWRR locomotives

For those of you who are interested here is a picture of Roger's generator made on 3/10/2019. Sorry it's not a better angle, but they wouldn't let me climb over the fence. (This was when Roger was on static display at Main Street Station while the track was being rebuilt.)

Feedwater heaters on the WDWRR locomotives

Henri Giffard The injector was invented by Henri Giffard in early 1850s and patented in France in 1858, for use on steam locomotives. It was patented in the United Kingdom by Sharp, Stewart and Company of Glasgow. Sorry Henri...

Feedwater heaters on the WDWRR locomotives

They had the pumps available regardless of whether they were using feedwater preheaters. The pumps are much easier to use - just open a valve if the train is in motion. When the trains are in service the pumps provide plenty of water. They often have to use the injectors first thing in the...

Feedwater heaters on the WDWRR locomotives

The locomotives at WDW have both pumps which are driven by the piston rods and steam injectors. The problem with the pumps is that they only work when the locomotive is in motion. If the loco is stationary for very long and they need to add water to the boiler they have to use the steam...

Feedwater heaters on the WDWRR locomotives

Just blame it on spell checker! That's what I do... FYI I could use a preheater here is southeast Alabama. ;) Low of 16 degrees tonight. I know that doesn't compare to what some of you are experiencing but for us that is COLD!

Feedwater heaters on the WDWRR locomotives

Correct. Having enough water was a much greater challenge than having enough fuel for steam locomotives travelling across the country. I was told that the water at WDW used in the locos is purer than the drinking water to help reduce scale in the boilers. If I remember correctly the WDW...

Feedwater heaters on the WDWRR locomotives

99% sure that is not how it works. The "used" steam exhausts to the atmosphere after passing through the preheater. On steamships, generating plants, and nuclear submarines the steam is run through a condenser after it exits the turbine to cool it and convert it back to liquid which is then...

Feedwater heaters on the WDWRR locomotives

Explain how water is saved. It still takes the same amount of steam and thus the same amount of water to drive the pistons the same distance. The only difference with the preheater is that the water is warmer when it goes in the boiler. That requires less fuel to produce the same amount of...
