Will Disney Ever Build Another OmniMover-Based Attraction?
Although ride technology gets better every day, my favorite Disney attractions remain to be the good ol' omni-mover rides: Spaceship Earth, Horizons, World of Motion, Haunted Mansion, Dreamflight (Buzz), etc.
Given the advanced ride systems being used by Disney (and others) nowadays, do you think Disney will ever build a new attraction based on the omni-mover ride system? (This doesn't include updating a current omni-mover attraction with a new theme. I mean build one from scratch.) Comments? Timekeeper |
They are right now. In Disneyland. It's called Buzz Lightyears Astro Blasters, so yes, I believe they will :D

That's too similar to something that already exists, so I would consider that to be a "clone" and not a "new" attraction, even if it does have its differences.

Yes I belive they will in the future. Not the near future, but when new management comes in I believe more will be made.

Well I voted "No" but I definately hope I am wrong. I like thrill rides as much as anyone, but I do hope Disney keeps up the balance needed for the parks. For every couple of E ticket thrills, it would be nice to see a C ticket level OmniMover (something like Dreamflight) attraction built. I just don't know if we'll ever see attractions like that being built again. But let's all hope I'm wrong.

Optomistically thinking, I think we shall see some form of an OmniMover attraction under a new administration. I believe it will probably be in Animal Kingdom since that park is in dire need of an attraction of this sort!

I don't see the technology involved as being outdated, and i'm guessing WDI doesn't either considering Buzz.
But as someone alluded to already, it all depends on what general direction Disney will be headed. Will the emphasis be on quick thrill, non-educational or imagination-evoking attractions, or even whether the few that are built are relegated to attraction similar to Buzz where there isn't anything taken away from the attraction, its just there, like a video game. We don't go to the 6 flags, pure thrill parks. WDW, DLP and TDS are the only theme parks we've been to and anticipate bringing our little ones to as they grow older. Now if the theme of their parks changes to mirror Islands of Adventure etc, then buh bye Disney. |

What makes Space Mountain so great? It is not just the thrill from riding a rollercoaster in the dark. (I have ridden MindBinder at Astro World, and it was not that great.) It is the setup that Space Mountain gets. There are theaters and slow moving rides around Space Mountain that hieghten the overall enjoyment of the ride, once you get to it. Space Mountain can be picked up and placed in a park filled with rollercoasters, and it would not be the same thrill that we have all come to love. Something would seem missing from the classic that is so adored. Well, anyway, I voted yes. It might just be the fact that I hope there will be another omni-mover attraction, but I think with the technology that has been created in the past few years, the Imagineers could come up with a new and amazing ride that would give all us die-hard Disney fans what we want so badly. But, it could also satisfy the needs of the general crowd. Now, I hate doing this, but I feel that I should connect both the subjects in my post. I also feel I might be opening another can of worms (or another thread). How could we get an omni-mover attraction that disguised itself into a ride that thrill seekers would want to go on. I have no doubt that the creativity in the Walt Disney Co. is still there, and I believe they could do just that. |
I honestly hope so, but I'm really not sure right now. Omnimover attractions don't bring in as many crowds as they used to, and it seems like preteens-teenagers are seeking thrills rather than a detailed slower attraction :(

Not exactly an Omnimover...
I think they will head more in the direction that they did with the new Imagination...I think they will be more like small groups of vehicles that can turn and point your attention in the direction they want...There is nothing better than not having to worry about sight lines...that's the beauty of the Omnimover...it literally points the audiences view right at what you want them to see...

It was just a thought...
It just seemed to me like they don't really like to do the whole continuous load thing anymore...Breaking the vehicles into groups just seems to make a bit more sense...like four or five cars to a group...They can still use the same principals that made the Omnimover great...without the necessity of haveing it be continuously loading...because that creates show scene difficulties (having to use the giant turntable in Imagination)...
