On behalf of @MonorailRed and myself, we'd like to formally welcome one and all to...

Festivus_zpsr61qdyye.jpg

2015 brought about some stellar competitions and great Imagineering projects, which all culminates in the Elite Eight Competition

This year, with so many talented armchair imagineers, we wanted to offer an imagineering competition for everyone this holiday season! With such a positive response, we are really excited for what we have in store for you all! We think this will be a great way to end the year and ring in 2016.

With that said...what is Festivus?

:D

For our purposes, this competition invites one and all who perhaps didn't make it into the Elite Eight, are new to the community, or just would like to participate in some very engaging imagineering challenges.

This competition is a bit unique compared to other competitions...for the following reasons:

1. There are no eliminations. With a busy holiday season, and a competition "just for fun", everyone will be able to participate in all challenges if they would like!

2. The challenges take place in different time periods. As you'll see from the first challenge, you travel back in time! You'll have to think outside the box for ideas...which should make for some interesting proposals.

3. The main goal of this is just to have fun. There will be 2 challenges in total.

As of now, the people who have signed up have been designated into 3 teams of 4 contestants (just by random draw)

You can also individually pick team names (we'll let you decide on those!)

Team 1
The90sKid
MCParradox
Simon Sulk
Brer Panther

Team 2
orlando678-
Ranky64
ToInfinityAndBeyond
Perry2x2

Team 3
DlpPhantom
mickeyfan5534
SimulatedIntelligentRobot
IAmNotAHufflepuff

If anyone has any questions...or "airing of grievances":p you can use the ICS Elite Eight Discussion Thread to chat with fellow contestants and people in the Elite Eight for one big collaborative discussion thread!

Also if anyone is late to the party and would like to join...we will give you a day or so to decide. If yes, then we'll add you onto a team!

That's about it! Now it's time for the Festivus feats of strength!!:D

Challenge 1 drops at midnight!

Challenge 1 - The Florida Project
Florida-Project.jpg

Welcome to your first challenge! In your teams, you all will take a journey back in time, and re-write history in a bold, new direction. The Florida Project encompassed a lot more than just the theme park and the city of Epcot. It included other sites such as an industrial park, an entrance plaza, and a fully-functioning airport of the future.

For this challenge, imagine you are in the late 1960s. Plans have been approved to begin construction on Walt Disney's dream project. You've been tasked by WDI to toss out the old entrance plaza/airport areas...and redesign them from the ground up!

In the image above, you can catch a glimpse of where the airport and entrance plaza would have been. Using those same landmarks, it's up to you to come up with a unique Walt Disney World entrance, more glamorous and inviting than the original. Use your imagination with this one! Think outside the box! You have free reign to design anything to you want to be included in the airport and entrance plaza...just be sure to keep the Disney touch!

The project will be due on Wednesday December 9th at 8PM EST

Your guest judge this round is @tcool123 - winner of the Sorcerer's Apprentice Season 3!

Good Luck to all and have some fun! :)

Your team PMs (to use for brainstorming) will be coming in the morning (east coast time)! For now, get some rest and have a good night!

Two announcements for everyone!

First, we are going to extend the due date until Friday December 11th at 8PM EST in order to give you all enough time to finish the projects. If you need any more time, just let us know.

Second, we'd like to welcome two new members to the competition! @Matt7187 and @DSquared from the Elite Eight! They will be placed on teams today and join in on the brainstorming.

Glad to have you on board and thank you so much for participating! And like we said before, it's an open door policy to everyone if they wish to join! :)

Walt Disney's grand vision of EPCOT Center was very different than the them park we know and love toady. The Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow would have been a functioning city of the future. The city would have been an astounding achievement that would draw in visitors from all over the world.

To accommodate traveling ease, there would need to be an airport. Walt Disney's Airport of Tomorrow would unify the world in a new wave of technology and entertainment. You arrive at one of four terminals, Pluto, Mickey, Goofy, and Donald. Each terminal would have 5 gates named after famous Disney characters from the time period. For entertainment, each terminal would have a show from Disneyland (Mickey will have Mickey Mouse Revue, Donald will have Enchanted Tiki Room, Goofy will have Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln and Pluto will have Carousel of Progress). Mickey would be the main terminal, so you would have to use the airport's mini monorail if you came from either of the other three terminals. The walls are covered in art and photos from the construction of the city. Here, there are some shops, stands, and places to eat.

Once you leave the airport, you arrive in EPCOT Plaza, the entrance to the city. This will be a huge area with Meet and Greets, a carousel, Disney's Kids Club interactive playground (similar to the kid's areas on current day cruise ships using characters from Peter Pan, Dumbo, Cinderella, Jungle Book and Winnie the Pooh. The Walt Disney Cinema will showcase Disney classics, and will premiere new movies. Along with these entertainment venues will be a wide variety of restaurants, stands, a state of the art monorail station, a museum similar to One Man's Dream, and a store that in size competes with that of World of Disney.

EPCOT Plaza and Walt Disney's Airport of Tomorrow will be a grand welcome to the world's tourists and will dazzle millions.

You can thank @MonorailRed for this amazing topic.

Challenge 2: Sailing Off Into a New Year!
01bis.jpg

WDI is known for their innovative ideas and world-renown ingenuity. However, one imagineering concept took these talents to next level!

The S.S. Disney was a proposed theme park built into a Cruise Ship. Complete with attractions, shows, you name it. It was supposed to be a "floating" Disneyland. Unfortunately this idea never made it to reality....but fortunately for you all, you get to work together to bring this idea to life!

For this round, these will be no "teams", as you will all work together to come up with one giant theme park proposal! You can brainstorm your ideas in this thread and then post the finished product at the end. Basically, your job is to create the "floating" Disneyland that never was....

The guest judge for this round will be @tcool123

This concept will ring in the New Year, as it will be due on New Years Eve (December 31st) at 11:59 EST

You can begin your brainstorming together in this thread, and then post the final project when you're done. We might even chime in too to help out and add some stuff. Also anyone who wasn't involved in the first challenge but would like to join, feel free! I will tag everyone in segments below to ensure they know the challenge!

Good Luck everyone!

Okay I'd like to help out with the brainstorming in this one because this is such an interesting topic.

I'd say the first thing we do is figure out what exactly we want to have in the ship. What attractions? New ones? Maybe a nostalgic cruise of extinct attractions? The original intention was to have it be a floating "Disneyland" and seen from the image it would have included many of the "Magic Kingdom" type elements...but we don't have to go that route....we can do our own thing if we prefer.

Anyone have any suggestions?
