Just a Big Hole in the Ground
by Allen Castillo, on Flickr
Meteor Crater, about 37 miles or 60 km east of Flagstaff, Arizona.
About 50,000 years ago, a meteorite measuring at least 50 meters across struck this area of Arizona at about 12.8 km/sec. Most of the meteorite vaporized on impact but left this well-preserved crater measuring 1,200 meters in diameter and 170 meters deep. The impact has been estimated at about 10 megatons.

Wow...what a shot! Can you give info on what you used to take the shot? Aperture? Shutter speed? ISO?
Sure.

Nikon D750 with the Nikon 85mm 1.8 @ 2.8 with shutter of 1/1000 and ISO 100. I shoot everything in Manual but knew I wanted 2.8 for DoF reasons and I always keep it at ISO 100 unless I have to bump up the shutter for some reason (dark rides or stop motion at sunset/blue hour with no tripod) so it was metered (spot metering) properly when moving to 1/1000.

I also shot in Continuous High and rapid fired shots for the actual flames to make sure not to miss it. And finally it was shot in continuous single point focus so as it moved it didn't lose focus.
