Disney Rewards Redemption Card Question

So our family booked a trip for this December last year (in October 2014) so as to not loose any of our Disney $$$. I keep transferring the $$$ over to my redemption card as it getting close to them expiring, e.g. I have $$$ expiring in September, October, November, so I'll transfer them over in August. The question is, in the future, as I earn Disney Dream Reward Dollars, can I use them at the Disney Store to purchase Disney gift cards (which don't expire)?
We used to go the WORLD more frequently, but with some health issues, which caused financial issues, we may not make it back again in 5 years, so I am trying to think of how to best use my $$$$.

I'm not sure about a Disney Store at the mall but I have used my rewards card at the on-line Disney store. I don't think is should matter if you buy gift cards or merchandise.

Yes you can buy Disney gift cards at the mall with your redemption card. And yes it's a solid use of the points since Disney gift cards don't expire

It's far more convenient than dealing with your redemption card dates
