Favorite non-Disney part of a Disney vacation

For me its the plane ride or car ride down there.

The pool and hot tub back at the rental house.

Once I finally after many hours of packing and taking a shower and such, get in the car to leave and be on our way.

I get excited when we head to our airport, and the whole flight process, really. It's all part of the build-up (like the ferry to the MK). IND....flight....MCO....DME....

Counting the Waffle Houses on the way down (I think it was around 98), and finding those Deep South road treasures.

I like riding the tram from the gates to the main terminal at MCO.. Looking for gators in the ponds on airport grounds.

Either the drive down(18hrs) or the drive to the airport & flight there!(a much better 2hrs)

Yes and the welcome center when we enter Florida. We always stop and get a picture of our boys by the sign! It's nice to see how they've grown over the years. Our other non-Disney tradition is a day at Kennedy Space Center on the way in (last trip is was on the way out, so we could make the last day of SWW) I also love my day at the outlet malls (usually just go for the Disney ones)

We always try to spend a few days afterwards at the Gulf Side Beaches(Clearwater, St. Pete, or in between). It's great to relax after the craziness of the WDW portion.

Settling in at the airport lounge pre-flight and having a Bloody Mary ( Wanna double for a dollar more? ) while DW has a Cape Codder and going over our well thought out plans as if seeing them for the first time.

Watching the excitement on the kids faces as they take the rings off their countdown chain... the early morning drive to the airport with a stop at McD's for a wonderful greasy breakfast... and then eventually arriving at MCO.

Do you drive all the way down from WI? We used to do that and that drive from Madison was LONG lol (We also didn't stop so it was just 19 hours straight) I remember getting to Florida and being excited to learn it was still hours and hours away lol...

I get excited once I am through Airport Security at O'hare or Midway, once I am there I am happy!!
